P & S celebrate Les Grobstein's 69th birthday with guests. Jim Shorts gives Les a few well deserved shots.

I thought he was in his 80s.

P & S are justifiably giggling in the background when Les disconnects from the guests there for him, and goes off on a tangent.

My sister lives in Elk Grove Village. Where can I meet Les?

This comment that I am going to make is completely worthless, but I have to make it:

In fourth grade, lying in bed listening to Animal Stories, Catherine Johns or someone like that remarked that it was Les Grobstein's birthday. I remembered that he was the sports guy for the station, and I just assumed that he was a big stud, probably a former pro athlete, and definitely someone worth writing my biography about. Needless to say, I couldn't find any information on him in the library, and the only other humans who had ever heard of him were my brothers, with whom I shared a room and clock radio (the one with those little flaps).

I also was positive that Catherine Johns must have been beautiful. I was really easily impressed.

What's more, I thought that that Lorelei chick on the Loop commercials was Patti Haze.

Les seemed old even when he was working with Lujack and that was close to 40 years ago.

Whatever happened to Patti Haze. She was really good at her job and unceremoniously dumped. She seemed to just fade away afterwards. She had a voice that would have worked for radio in any genre until radio no longer existed

Anyway, happy birthday, Les. It's a better sports world with you in it

Nobody would touch Jim Shorts "Giangreco/Cheryl Burton cage match" joke.

I know Kevin Matthews has some illness and dont remember what it was but he sounded horrible. He couldnt seem to come up with the correct wording when he was talking about the Grobbers brain. The cage match joke was pretty funny though.

When Les gives an opinion, or comments about someone he apparently must feel more secure praising the person before he gives a thought. "He's a nice guy, but Leno missed a lot of blocks". He actually said that. Some qualifiers he regularly uses.

Per se
He's a great guy
He's a terrific guy
He's a good guy
He's a nice guy
I've known him a long time
We worked together at sports phone
We're on a first name basis
I sat with him in the press box
He was always nice to me in the locker room
I've never had a problem with him
I've given him a ride
I know him and his son
They're first class people
He tapped me on the shoulder at the stadium
I have a picture of him on my website
I've talked to him at the airport
I know his father
He's a great guy in the clubhouse

I can't even begin to explain my disappointment the first time I saw Steve Dahl and he didn't look like a hippy version of Troy Donahue.
