haha, it was a big deal at the time. i remember that day, couldn't watch the game, as i had just started working.

really good broadcasting crew working the game...mccarver got the cheesy stuff with the wives. chub feeney seemed really irritated with mccarver's umpire question - 4 vs. 6 umps. jackson and weaver were predicting things that would materialize, ala steve stone. really a shame about drysdale. knew chicago inside out as the sox guy...died too young.

Funny if Marquee carries over it's "great guy... Cubs Shangri-La" theme into high school game broadcasts. "Look at that kickoff returned for 100 yards! But the missed tacklers are quality humans!

yeah, he always seemed like he was 62 y/o. weaver wasn't even 55 in 1984. drysdale wasn't even 50. drysdale suggested that reggie may have hit 600 career HRs if he was a cub, reggie didn't say anything. interesting...i think p.k. wrigley's reputation was well-known.

cubs up 2 games to 0, friday night game in san diego. party going on, cub game was on, cubs winning early in game 3, i'm thinking cubs sweep. by sunday night, cubs fans were stunned and numb.

i remember a few months later when the bears lost to the 49ers in the nfc championship game and the sun-times had a crying cub and a crying bear hugging each other, on page 1. today's page 1 of the sun-times is a report on racist marist h.s. students who didn't like mexican music at the prom.

give me 1984-1985 over 2020-2022.
