The Superbowl one is already played to death, with this idiot screaming, and now we'll have to look forward to his horrific screaming as the audio to Hester's career highlight reel. Hell, give me the TV call where Joe Buck barely wakes up to take note of a 100 yard run back for TD...I'll take that over the breathy, long-winded, nowhere near real time call of the cliche' bag known as Joniak.

Driving up to Madison on Thanksgiving I was treated to Packer Radio and the goof they have with Larrivee is just awful. I'd take 20 Joniaks before listening to that cheese burpin idiot.

Joniak is terrible and Thayer isn't any better. Ron Gleason sucks at halftime, too. The best part of my Bears radio experience yesterday was angry Doug. Too bad OB was out drunk.

For me the gold standard is Larrivee so anyone else is a step down but while he's definitely not a great pbp guy I don't think Joniak is awful . More average.

I used to love Wayne. But then I heard him do a Packers game a few years ago and he sounded too homerish. He didn't sound the same. Remember when he did Bulls games (badly)? That's what he sounded like doing the Pack.

Yeah, I was never a fan of his WGN broadcasts for the Bulls. The one thing I do remember was him calling a game, and someone on the Bulls (might have been Ben Gordon), hit a dagger 3, and Larivee made his call "The Dagger!", and it was actually sponsored by some medevil type movie that was being released around that time. Just bad in so many ways...

They could pay more. WTMJ takes its Packers coverage very seriously, more like WGN and the Cubs than 780 and the Bears. (And yeah, it's a Milwaukee station that produces the games; the Green Bay station is an affiliate.) Between what we know about the Bears and what we know about CBS, it doesn't surprise me at all that together they'd skimp on broadcasting. They fired Hub Arkush from the radio booth because he was the third man, don't forget.

Joniak does suck out loud, but whenever I hear Scott Zolak on a clip from a Patriots' game it makes me think things could be worse.

Larrivee has documented that he was a Packers fan as a kid. Doing radio for them was his dream job. That's why he left.

Odd first time post.

I drove across the country listening to them call a game and it was infuriating. They don't tell you how much a play gained, the new down and distance, the score, the time on the clock. It's like listening to someone who thinks you are watching on tv.

This thread is so ancient it tells you pretty well that he going nowhere. I still think of him as the fairly new voice of the Bears but he is now in his late 50s.
