On the air at 107.1 October 7th. I'll hang out in Ravenswood with a Walkman to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Stick is between the Damen and Montrose Brown Line stations, projected coverage is north to Touhy, south to North Avenue, west to Cicero Avenue.

Wow, it's been two years and still isn't on the dial. UNTIL NEXT MONTH (MAYBE)

Finally, success. Campbell found a building in Uptown, on Sheridan just north of Foster, that was locally managed and affordable. The tower will be built atop that structure, while the CHIRP studios remain at their current location. Licensed at 100 watts, the station's signal at 107.1 FM should cover an area roughly bounded by the lake and Kimball Avenue to the east and west and the Evanston border and Belmont Avenue to the north and south. But low-power broadcasts can be squirrelly. "It may be somewhat better in cars," says Cambpell, "and could be somewhat worse in thick-walled buildings."

CH, do you ever listen to Vocalo? Their signal has gotten a lot better, where a seek/scan on a car radio will pick it up in most of the city.

Not habitually, no. I've listened to the Morning Amp a few times but I always seem to drift back to Morning Edition.

I think I've read about Vocalo more than I've listened to it. It seems like one of those classic good-intentions-bad-leadership stories of public broadcasting: CPM needed to address WBEZ being too rich, white, and professional (W-Bourgeoisie, you might call it), but kept bungling things and going back on its lofty promises. I hope it's gotten smoothed out; it does seem like a necessary outlet.

The Morning Amp is pretty terrible, good intentions run amok. It's mostly a music station after that. Classic and Alternative Hip Hop, Soul, Some local stuff. What's-his-name, the guy who can't shut up about living in Rogers Park and riding his bike everywhere (no, not Joe Orr Road Rod) who is on BEZ after Morning Edition, has a weekly segment called "Reclaimed Soul," that spotlights a forgotten Soul artist or movement or label. Ayana Contreras, the person who does this segment, has a bigger role at Vocalo. She's also a producer for Sound Opinions now. I like her, she's knowledgeable, has a good ear.

 Show Orr Road Rod would become the crown jewel of the CFMB Podcast Network in no time.
