I read the article and it sounded McEnroe was reluctant in stating the obvious, but was forced into saying it. The person interviewing him asked whether Serena should simply be referred to as the best tennis player, period, with no "female" qualifier.

And props to Serena for saying if she played Andy Murray, she would lose 6-0, 6-0, in 5-10 minutes.

I think the most ludicrous part of this whole thing is that there seems to be people who think Serena could compete with the men on the mens tour and she simply chooses to exclusively play women. It's like she sees Federer and Nadal and says "Yeah, I could beat them but I'm just going to keep playing the same people I always play".
