Post subject:  Less Les

I once enjoyed listening to les as I was in a semi-slumber but I can't anymore because now it just makes me angry which does not lend itself to rest. His callers are bad enough but Les seems to know very little about current day sports save for the last game or two played by the home team. He knows plenty about the past, the present not so much.
Caller: I'm excited about the Cubs start. But really Les, can Joe Maddon lead this team to the world series?
Les: He's going to try!
(Passing on the chance to offer opinion)
Caller: I'm kind of worried because they got rid of Chapman.
Les: Chapman? They never had Chapman! Have a good night.
Caller: okay Les.
Les: can you imagine if the Cubs had Chapman?
Typical stupid post midnight caller, Les adding absolutely nothing and me opting for silence as I shut the radio.

Someone should ask Les to describe the 3 technique.

I really think Les just tunes out the callers and lets them ramble on for 2 or 3 minutes about nonsense. When they ask him a direct question he can never give a direct answer.

He really needs to tighten up these callers. He can cut them off and have them get to the point w/o being rude. Talk more w/ the producer. Hearing a lot of these idiot callers is definitely a PTFB for me.

I like my beer cold and my overnight sports radio produced tighter than a drum.

Les remembers rosters and starting lineups from years past, but he knows absolutly nothing about the sports themselves as far as technique, strategy, game planning, etc. The 3 technique question was just one example of this.
Local overnights on WSCR are probably doomed once CBS sells its radio business.

I've been listening to Les for some time now at work. These statements are true. Les will often get asked a forward looking question, and he'll take every opportunity to a) talk about the past or b) completely ignore the question. He doesn't have any actual opinions about future outcomes. He does have opinions on teams (hates the Packers and brings it up nearly every show). He is a walking encyclopedia...that counts for something. He'd be great working with someone who has opinions, and he can just be the curator. Otherwise, the show verges into unlistenable territory.

The callers really are funny, and Les says at least one QTY quote per segment. The guy is working late, I get it, but he has more malaprops and mis-quotes than North at his best (worst)

regardless, Les is miles ahead of national CBS trash. if not only for keeping it local. ferrel on the bench is literal sandpaper to listen to (and when hes on vacation 3/4 of the time, his replacements are trash) Amy Lawrence can breeze through a segment and argue against herself 2-3 different times only to end with "we'll see. go Syracuse."

ugh...is Huge the best of all these? jesus Christ.

there's a regular caller who calls him "Professor Grobstein" -- you learn shit if you listen to him. If you wanna hear about the modern game wait til 5am when hully & Manley come on cuz that's far and away the most "tightly produced" show on the station.

I have been trolling Mitch Rosen through e-mail and on Twitter to come back to the Score as Les' producer. While Les is an all time legend, I strongly feel I could bring a fresh voice/sound to the show. You are probably asking yourself.."who the hell is this guy?" Well, I'm the most unprofessional update guy in Score history and I'm one hell of a producer. Take a listen for yourself and then do me a favor and start lobbying for me to come back to overnights. Together, Les and I will be the most entertaining show on the dial. Mr Rosen, if you read this please take the time and listen to my airchecks. I'll work for peanuts!!!!
