Every spot at the Score is now filled by a guy who is younger and who will never have better career options. Dan was noncommittal on a return to work when pressed by Terry at his farewell show. Is it time to give up hope that Dan will ever even be interested in returning to radio?

It appears yes. Unless, there is some start up to light his fire. Management: Please remove the WDRV section.

I think I have to concede the point Seacrest. He pretty much said he wasn't coming back at Terry's event.

on a side not, I'm sorry I didn't ask but did you attend Terry's farewell.

no shit

all he had to do is show up for work everyday and he could have survived another 10 years

just look at johnny danger on wjjo. that dude is way past his prime for his position, but they keep him on and pay him well because he keeps showing up for work, he still does a good job and its a proven commodity. you try to replace him and you dont know what youre getting.

awww don't you worry, sp-mackman: when mac has something to plug/promote he'll sure as shit come here to let "his people" know the good news!

otherwise, if you've ever seen mac on facebook you'll know that just about any decent "LIGHT EM UP!" post he makes gets like 150-300+ comments/replies and likely 500+ likes, so in terms of "maintaining your ALS" dan gets a lot more positivity-concentrate from the facebooks than he does coming here and, say, any decent [self-promotional] thread will get ~3-4 pages worth of replies [so uhh 75-100?] where something like 1/4 to 1/2 are inherently negative/taking-the-piss, however unlike facebook "he can't hang up on em here!" [read: block them]

so you know, there's something to be said about the inherent "think happy thoughts" nature of grooming/burgeoning your own ALS/cult-of-personality on facebook as opposed to here... plus people on facebook tend to wear pants and us? well hey at least with us "pantsless cretins" you'll know when we're genuinely "happy to see you" eh? =P

Did Spiegel's contract get extended? I have assumed that Parkins was chosen by Mac to be his next partner after Mitch jettisons Spiegel at the end of his current deal. The only reason Spiegel was hired in the first place was to be Mac's cabana boy; it looks to me like Mac has found a new and likely more obsequious acolyte for this role.

Was Mac really that good to begin with? He's sort of Mr. Monotone Meathead with the cigarette voice.

Yes, he might be a walking encyclopedia of knowledge of Chicago sports history, but I never found him to be a "must listen" persona, like B&B were or Steve Dahl back in the day. I think one of the reasons he probably left the Score is because he knew he would always be second-rate there to B&B. The only decent segments he did was talking to other towns' newspaper reporters covering NFL football.

Mac was simply awful on DRV.

Yes. Mac on his game is the realest guy in sports radio.

He was not good with callers, which is why he took few on his show.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it was my underSHtanding that Mac was better with fans/callers in person (remotes, appearances, etc.) than on the phones in studio?

When the heavy fuel crew started, I hated it at first. Then after listening for a few months, I loved the show. I am not the only one who shared this exact experience. Mac was good because he was like a redneck version of Mike North. North was Chicago, but Mac was like a rural version of Chicagoland if that makes any sense.

I liked Mac but he surpassed Gary Meier territory in fucking up great situations. Making $500k - $1M+ to talk sports on the radio for 4 hours a day, but you continue to fuck up every gig you get because you can't work with others, it got too much for a fan like me.
