You don't hear Mac say much about Allen Bros anymore. If not free at their cost not so great.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle here. I listened back in the day and Mac did know his hockey and loved the Hawks. Bill Wirtz did his best to destroy the brand and the fanbase and yes….the MJH days, hockey talk would have been an automatic punch the dial for listeners. I agree with IMU, though, that he had enough sway where he could have found a way to help build it up. He had zero problem talking Golf and giving Harry Horse Racing minutes….both of which are AUTOMATIC turn the radio off topics for me.

I think playing the hockey horn was simply a way to have a little fun with it…it always made me laugh…don’t think it was any more complicated than that.

I group Giangreco with Lou Canellis and Jim Belushi as viruses that just won’t seem to go away…Mac is nowhere where he once was, but he at least had a time where he was the best at what he did.

I think the Allen Brothers got sick of Mac's hands on their meat.
