Question...Why would the Cubs offer Bryant an extension now (or earlier this season)? Wouldn't they want to make sure his shoulder his 100% for the next several years before they do that? Of course, Theo signs pitchers with a bunch of shoulder issues so maybe that sort of stuff doesn't matter to him.

Not exactly. There are plenty of players who forgo the maximum money they could make for a lot of reasons. If I were Bryant I would give that type of discount no thought based on how the Cubs already took a discount on his services.

Cubs don't want to pay his arbitration figure and are probably wart of how messy it could get in Bryant chooses not to settle. They went through it with Arrieta.
