I don't know the cumulative bullpen ERA in his playoff appearances. I'd guess it isn't good. This year his starters shit the bed so this particular series isn't on him.

Now, I understand you have to get there, but I will never be a fan of any manager destroying young cheap arms. Now almost all of them do it, and Counsell in particular has done it from the gitgo. OF COURSE, he has guys up and throwing 1 or 2 batters early. I saw a post here praising it.

The thing is, he uses his whole bullpen. Pitchers will never pitch after throwing back to back days and he doesn't do that very often either. If you are in the pen, you aren't there as a number, you will be in the games.

75-80 innings is at the high end but still a reasonable workload for a reliever. It is an inning every other day.

It's not the innings per se. It's also the appearances. It's the up and throwing 4-5 days a week. It's a sweatshop. Bullpens are a wild shot in the dark for every team, every year, for a reason.

He doesn't get them up and throwing and not use them though, I don't understand where you are coming from with that. Again, he likes to use the whole bullpen and hates a hitter seeing a pitcher 3 times.

And he gets them up early enough. Too many times this year, Ross got a guy up in the bullpen one batter too late, sometimes multiple times in a single game.

Bullpen pitches count. They are bullets being used. Being up early is sweatshop tactics. Unless you are saying they come in early also. Which also makes the case for the sweatshop.

There's 162 of these motherfuckers. You don't have to drag guys out of the bullpen every time you have a little stomachache.
