Taking an indefinite leave of a sense from the Astros. Thanks for picking him and not KB. Appel would be 3rd #1 overall to never play in the bigs. And they still won the WS wasting the #1 pick.

So was this an issue with his “stuff”? Was it a velocity issue? Or could he not find the strike zone? I’d imagine a team with a pitching guru would maybe kick the tires on a former #1 pick.

Crushed under the weight of the hype that Boras created for him. Another Boras casualty. He's having quite the offseason killing careers.

Luckily for the White Sox the Astros drafted Appel before Theo the Less could.

This is why I'm not a big fan of tanking, pretty much all drafts have guys passed over that are outstanding..like Judge in this draft.

It was never an issue with his stuff. He was soft. I thought experiencing failure for the first time would toughen him up and give him that FU attitude a pitcher needs but it actually made him even softer to the point he’s walking away. It’s really too bad.

He's had about the same amount of playoff success as Bryant.
