It's pretty depressing. They're my favorite band but I like them less after reading it.

I think your reaction depends on your expectations. I enjoy Warren Zevon's music and, based on several reviews, was kind of leery on reading I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon, but I expected stories about an irresponsible person with an insane drinking problem and that's pretty much what I got. I really don't like his music any less. If anything, it makes you appreciate the autobiographical nature of some of his songs.

His documentary was good. I liked the commentary with Copeland.

So they collaborated on each other's work then, because Copeland also put out a movie using all the old Super 8 film he had and then wrote a book as well about The Police, Polo, scoring movies, etc...and now just released another book. Wrong thread but I'm going to go see the orchestral show Copeland put together (and is playing in) in May...I have an extra if anyone is interested.

Yeah I have that one too. The commentary tracks are great with both. Its strange that Sting declined to participate in the commentary.

I read it on a flight back from SF about 10 years ago. I never had much respect for Summers' playing and talent but the book changed all that. He's a monster player with an incredible music vocabulary, made me seek out his solo stuff which I like . Never wouldve guessed Neil Sedaka of all people saved his bacon by giving him a job.

Yeah, I believe his playing allowed for Copeland to stick out more which caught my ear as a younger drummer. Of course there are things I love about Peart, Bonham, Cobham, Rich, et al., but that book was a decent read and the Neil Sedaka story was great. I enjoyed World Gone Strange which became the outro music for the short-lived Dennis Miller Show (Andy started as musical director) and was re-introduced to the drumming of Chad Wackermann with that album.

I always knew they were dicks, but just some of the shit where they went out of their way to be assholes. Especially the way they treated Peter Jesperson who is the second most important guy in the band beside Westerberg.

It doesn't change how I feel about the music though.

I just double checked and it was only Summers on the commentary track on Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving the Police. Its still a good commentary track. I just noticed Everyone Stares got a blu-ray probably not much different than the DVD but I'll grab it anyway.
