Also, I would like to reiterate how much I hate Jesse Eisenberg.

The film is an Eisenberg as asshole tour de force in the very opening scene when he scoffs that Wallace teaches at "some small state school" in an all too familiar "if it's not New York, it's crap" attitude. Meanwhile the school has 20K students and is in close proximity to where Wallace was raised. Fuck you Jesse Eisenberg and fuck you Jesse Eisenberg's character I have never heard of.

I liked the movie for what it was. Certainly introduced DFW to many who didn’t know of him before.

I don't know that I learned a single thing about his writing from watching the movie. I learned some people think it is great, some east coasters begrudgingly find it brilliant and that he was eccentric.

The thing I don't understand about the movie is how the author of the book on which it is based would want to portray himself so poorly. Lipsky seems like an absolutely horrible person. I assume he didn't intend to reveal himself as a cad. How else am I supposed to feel about a jelous, unfaithful, dismissive, judgmental dickhead?

I started the movie wanting to know more about Wallace. Instead, I got to know more about Lipsky, for whom I have NO interest. The story reminded me of Soliari and Mozart in Amadeus.

Bernstein tries to identify with Wallace on occasion but he is so much more Lipsky in his life.

I haven't watched the movie -- DFW's family said he always preferred to be on the other side of the screen -- but I did read Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself, and Lipsky doesn't exactly edify himself in the book, either. I think it was a way to grieve Wallace, who himself was a cad and a dickhead, and to sell books to people who, at the time, wanted to believe that David Foster Wallace could do no wrong.

I just wish McDoink would let Bernsie finish his thought before chiming in. Does he really have to make noises and start talking over Dan every time? Whenever Dan asks a question, McDoink dives in way too early.

Listening to McKnight try to construct a sentence is like watching Keegan Bradley try to address the golf ball. I know it's early, but I'm calling it. He's the worst host in morning, midday and drive-time Chicago Sports Talk history. Bring back Harry, Tommy Williams, Goff or even Ogulnick.

Goff was a worse prime time host.

It was fucking fantastic. How many times are you going to ask such a dumb, convoluted question that an intelligent human being asks you, I don't know what you're asking?

Occasionally it will be done to Bernsie and it warms my heart.

How many times is that going to happen before he thinks "Maybe I should learn to prepare better, more concise questions?"

I guess if Mully hasn't done it there's not much hope McKnight will, either.

He just needs to ask straight forward questions instead of meandering nonsense where he tries to lead the guy on the phone.

That's part of the Bernstein method. You have to demonstrate knowledge with each question, the interview is about the interviewer, not the subject.

I agree with you that Bernstein is insecure and constantly needs to make a show of his intelligence, but I actually think he asks some of the best questions on the station. They're usually succinct, and I usually am interested in hearing the answer.

Just popping in to say what a piece of trash McDoink continues to be. Really bad. Worse than he was when he won some stupid bar contest. I've not heard much of this show, but gave a bit of a listen yesterday and today, and wow.

It seems the station is hell bent on making at least half of their shows unlistenable. Kudos for dumping Goff and meatpants, but dear God you bring this pudwhack back in?

The heavy sighing, the faux intelligence, good God is it bad. He's impossible to passively dislike (with, say, someone like Hanley) - listening to him should be some sort of torture technique.

Hopped in the car for a minute and I couldn't wait to get to my destination, as these two guys were on the hunt for the "96th Win" that would have clinched the division for the Cubs.

This show is just two guys doing a Radio For Smart People bit. I don't think that shtick works from a duo, and as we saw in the Spring Book, this show is steadily dribbling away the demo ratings league gifted to it by Spiegel & Parkins.

I might be in the minority but sports talk radio is not and cannot be smart. Inform me and more importantly entertain me. Unfortunately none of these shows entertain me.

I've listened to them for quite some time, and I've come to the conclusion that I just hate the sound of Connor's voice. I don't personally wish him any ill will, but when I hear his voice it as if I am hearing the love child of the annoying verizon guy and the true car guy. Just hearing his voice makes me want to drink to forget the pain.

He could be talking favorably about something I enjoy and I will still turn it off. Nearly everything about his manner of speaking is just...irritating.

I am glad to see you guys write this and that I am not the only one. I grew to hate Goff and now I am starting to hate McKnight too. At least with McKnight it is more of how he talks and not the type of person he is. I've been listening to sports talk for a long time and McKnight, Goff, and Golic are the only 3 that I hate to listen to. I haven't refused to listen to Bernstein and McKnight yet but it is coming.

It fills the void but I definitely don't look forward to it.

My rotation of listening is always: #1 Transition #2 Mac/Parkins unless the day's podcasts are not loaded in which I will go to Bernstein/McKnight for an hour in which they are not talking about the Bears or the Bulls. #3 Yesterday's Mac/Parkins #4 Some new hockey podcast (31 thoughts, Faxes from Uncle Dale, The Athletic, Puck Soup ect.)
