Thinking about the fish thing, I have come to respect people that fish. I don’t eat fish and never really enjoyed fishing as a hobby.

But going around the lake, I see how much simple enjoyment people get from fishing. There are the harder core guys who have trolling boats and run along the shoreline. There is a whole group that sits near the channels. There are the pier folks. And then there are the losers like me who fish from a pontoon and never seem to catch anything. In addition to warm weather fishing, there is a very large crowd that braves the winter and ice fishes.

I don’t see how anyone could have a problem with these folks and their avatars. Maybe there’s some cultural appropriation angle from Native Americans?

I can tell you with 100% certainty from my years of being very active on fishing forums and social media that fishermen, as a group, are very conservative. They are very Pro-Trump, All Lives Matter, pro gun, and very patriotic. I suspect that this is Dan's issue.

The problem is these people get fed misinformation like "Obama is coming for their guns" When you live south of 80 like me you see these nut jobs all over. If you simply explained to them someone like Trumps policies and even Bidens have 0 effect on the average man they'd probably change their tune. Doesn't help when people say defund police or gun reform either they think its all or nothing, when in reality it's just cutting police budget for schools, social workers etc and making common sense gun laws. Pontoons are great to fish off of, there is fish on the lake..just gotta find what depth they are at. Go out to 13-15 feet and find the weed line.. Fish there..you should catch something bouncing a jig off the bottom.

The interview with Crane Kenny was excellent. Bernstein asked a variety of succinct questions while Kenny gave thorough, informative answers. I couldn't help but think how McKnight would have bumbled, stumbled, and meandered through his questions if he were still on the air.

The who you crappin on Dan and his love / criticism of Crane is valid. I also find his recent radio content....PTFB. That being said, Dan is a skilled radio professional and does have fine interviewing skills....can't take that away from him, even though I don't care for him.

I've always said Dan is good at interviews. He knows how to ask a quick question that's to the point.

Mully and McDoink don't have this talent. They're not the only ones. Goff sucked at it as well. A lot of our sports radio hosts don't know how to do it. It is a skill to interview somebody. Bernstein does it well. I give him credit for that.

Mully is a guy that just pukes out words.

The key to an interview is to hear the guest talk. Our dumb ass radio guys don't realize that. So they ask 1 minute questions.

I think guys like Mully, Goff and others want to answer their own questions while asking it. That's the problem. That's why the question takes so long. It's an ego thing. They want to sound smart to the guest.

Bernstein does quick questions. Then he comments on the guests answers after the break. That's the way to do it.

Although I will say there is one guy that Bernstein wants to impress with long-winded questions during an interview.

Theo Epstein.

Because Bernstein is in love with him, wants his approval and Bernstein wants to have Theo think that he is smart.

The Bernstein/Theo thing is no different then trying to impress the girl you liked in high school. We all can relate to that.

So Dan hasn't seen The Wire, Breaking Bad, or Arrested Development? In the past Dan and Terry were badmouthing Mad Men. Those are some pretty big pop culture holes. Think I would pick 3 comedies with great rewatchability- It's Always Sunny, Brooklyn 99, and Letterkenny.

On a side note, Ian Happ is fantastic on the radio. I often don't even listen to interviews with athletes but Happ is on the short list of best athlete interview ever. He's better than most producers we've listened to over the years.

I hate a lot about how COVID shit is being handled and reported but that was a good interview. Hottovy is a sharp dude and his scenario is worth keeping in mind. Not worth crippling the economy over, but worth noting.
