I don't believe Dan should either. He could have taken a much easier path to success than he did. Lots of people broadcast low-minor league games for little money and don't really move beyond that and are forced into other careers.

It's not like he got placed through country club connections to Goldman Sachs.

agreed. there are times when he is totally oblivious to himself when he has spoken about his culture and religion. no other white group can have a culture nor be nationalistic, because those foundations are 'probably' rooted in racism and other religious groups can be mocked; especially fundamentalist christians - because "they believe in fairy tales".

I agree with the spirit of your post, if not the letter. The others in this thread are right, it's more rich privilege than white privilege. However, there's been a growing backlash against unpaid internships in the past handful of years. I think he's simply trying to acknowledge that he's aware of the phenomenon.

Normally, when I think of "rich privilege" it is about people who either have a trust fund that all but guarantees that they never have to earn money themselves and they can build a career without worrying about how much it pays. Good examples are how many actors in Hollywood came from obscene wealth and they could spend 10 years auditioning for roles with no money coming in and living in a nice house because their parents were making up for it. The other is when you are handed the direct business, or enter the same business as your already super successful parents. Good examples would be someone like Steph Curry and soon to be a whole generation of NBA players who were raised from birth to follow in the footsteps of rich NBA players. Obviously, the Ricketts family would be another example. I don't think Bernstein's parents were that rich to say "follow your passions and if you never make a dollar on your own it's alright".

His father had a friend that he knew through a club that hooked him up with an entry level job in sports that most people wouldn't have been able to get.

I know that's a joke, but people naturally pass down knowledge of what/who they know. Someone who has been on the dole for most of their life probably can give pointers on how to work that system much better than someone who goes on unemployment for the first time.
