Just for clarification: this is not a case of cancelling

Cancelling is when someone faces consequences for his thoughts. Bernstein is facing consequences for his actions. He threatened a guy and his family with harm.

If he had been fired by OneStep for something like saying the guy is a terrible person because he likes Trump, that would be cancelling.

Further clarification: he didn't do that

but if enough people with limited comprehension and/or those acting in bad faith claim he did, that is enough sometimes

of course he did. You'd have to either hold a low iq or have the brownest of noses not to understand he did.

'harm' is doing a lot of work here, but ok. I was responding to an earlier assertion of yours that he threatened physical harm (he didn't), and directly threatened the guy's kids (he didn't).

That said, Dan definitely did something he shouldn't have and opened himself up to consequences.

He's not going to face legal consequences because he didn't do anything illegal (like threaten someone physically)

So it's all PR, which is what cancel culture is about. What is the benefit to OneStep (and their mission) having him on the board versus distancing from him? They made the calculation that he wasn't worth it, and can probably get a comparable emcee who didn't get in an embarrassing social media confrontation

I don't think The Score makes that same calculation, but they could. They did with Mac, but much to the chagrin of the stupid, these things are on a case-by-case basis and considered with context

You purposely left off the part of my post where I quoted what Dan actually wrote.

"wanna fight...where you at". Parse that all you want Clinton. That is a threat.

and he won't face legal consequences because no one actually feared that he could carry out the physical threat. It doesn't mean it wasn't a threat.

I'll concede the "where you at?" line (it was on a different post than the 'fight' one) does take it to the level of a physical threat. Though we agree that no reasonable person would take it that way.

And certainly don't think Dan Bernstein would ever make a physical threat...but then again he said fish conservation REALLY sets him off, and I don't know that version of Dan!

If the Greg guy was next level, he should have said the Hinsdale Oasis or 35th Street.

For all the arguments over Bernstein, it is universally accepted that Greg is NOT next level, and instead Greg sucks.

Episode 1 of my podcast was titled "Beat a Dead Fish".

My improbably prognostication abilities never end.

Bernstein should have just let Twitter be his professional stuff and BlueSky be for his personal since nobody goes there.

If you don't have the mental ability to take criticism (which he doesn't seem to have ever had), maybe just leave the large picture of a dead fish off social media next to your overjoyed face.

If I had to guess, he lives in a very insular world where everyone thinks the same way. So he has trouble understanding or accepting that people have legitimate different views of the world. And with the world and social media so polarizing, he is always in defense mode. Goff had a lot of these traits as well.

My recollection is that Parkins gave a pseudo defense of Mac.

Can’t work that way. The anti-canceler has to be allowed the ability to use the canceler’s rules against him. That’s how society works; otherwise you’re forcing the anti-canceler into being a perma-pussy.

Does that make the anti-canceler a dick? Maybe. But dicks fuck assholes.

none of the losers on this board cheering about getting Bernstein removed from a children's cancer charity have been cancelled. They're just being assholes, like Bernstein. The difference here is Bernstein is the only one with skin in the game. The middle aged men here excitedly posting about how they won a battle have maybe impacted a charity's ability to raise money and made Dan Bernstein feel bad. Congrats to them, they're big time losers.

The original thing was funny. The thing after the thing isn't nearly as fun. I think the lesson here is don't zoom your therapy. You have to do it in person.

Goff moving off of a daily talk show and just being siloed into Bulls pre/post has probably been good for his personal life.

Speaking of former employees, Rock Mamola amplified the story (his bio says he works for the outlet so maybe he wrote it) https://x.com/JohnMamola/status/1901666285026513062

Now, that is nuance lost on Dan haters here. But that doesn't matter, would it suffice as an explanation to not be disciplined? Seems like a long shot honestly.

That’s not nuance.

Sure it is when you're accusing him of a crime, like the Greg Msngr did

But he definitely did threaten doxing. Though if it's public information I don't think that qualifies either.

"Dan didn't threaten the guy with involving his kids, Dan just threatened that he would get his kids involved!"

Are you related to SpiralStairs?

Perhaps he was just being "hyperbolic".

The best thing for sports talk in Chicago would be if Dan was scooped up by ESPN 1000. They have a better overall lineup with plenty of people Dan could fit well with as a tandem.

This is the normal cycle for Score stardom.

They never make it to 60 at the station. Something happens to all of them by early 50s, where they are limping by 55 and done by 60.

Mac and Bernie podcast where they could spend significant time saying anything they want......they both have thoughts that will rile people up, and yet have to follow FCC rules on air. Lean into your natural instincts.
