They aren't the only ones doing this. ESPN has had non-stop on Lonzo Ball. Never mind that the lead story on the website is "Hey, everyone, let's blow Aaron Judge some more!"

This is ESPN's first take comment on the trade:

Joe Peta's take: This move improves the Cubs because Quintana is a sizable upgrade over whichever replacement-level pitcher they would be sending out there. How much of an improvement? I project him as a savings of 9.3 runs over the rest of the year, which is essentially 1 win. That's doesn't seem like much, but he gives them upside variance that no replacement pitcher can provide. From an asset standpoint and the possibility of what each marginal win could mean for a team battling for a wild-card berth or division title, you make the trade. I still don't believe Chicago makes the postseason.

Upside variance! So this is a good trade because he is better than a minor-league pitcher and this won't help the Cubs win the playoffs just because that's what I think, no reason.

I wish Earl Weaver were alive to punch Joe Peta in the fucking face.

God it would be fucking great if they spent the first hour breaking down Thabo to the Jazz, Melo/Rockets rumors, and Lonzo Ball. You'd have to give them credit at that point.

Very serious voice. Both teams are closer to winning a World Series. He has already been in contact with his guys on this.

Per Dan, you now have a non moving piece in your starting rotation.

you can't believe they make the playoffs. That's a true statement...they've proven nothing this year and the young guys don't have enough stats on the back of the cards to know whether they are trending to their mean or if it's an aberration.

BOTH TEAMS ARE CLOSER TO A CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE. CUBS. ARE. NOT. DONE.

I have a guy in the know who told me they don't have to pay for insurance on the back end option years.

All dropped already.

Bernstein: Really smart Jews, not that there is any other kind, made a really smart trade.

Goff: There it is!!!! Yeah, man. That's why Jay Z studies them and reports back to black people on how to do things.

I have not listened once in months and in one question I get the inexorable vicissitudes question from a man who prides himself on his acute awareness of entropy in all things.

Terry really kept things in check, I guess. Who would have believed?

Was that when Passan said that was the most intelligent question he's ever been asked on sports radio?

I was busy looking through the word book defining thing.

Yes. At the close of the interview Passen gave Goff a little shot.
