So the much ballyhooed first caller of the bears season asked Dan how he's supposed to look at the Bears this year, like is he supposed to be happy they were within 1 TD of winning?

Man, they gotta pay for some of these callers, right? This is way too convenient (especially as they go to "yes Dan" emails immediately after the call) -- #NarativeBuilding #HeyFoxYoureNext

I disagree. Durability is part of the player.

I never said I agreed with Goff, only that I can understand where he's coming from! Obviously Kevin white is a bust.... Hell he's literally physically busted!

Someone who "does this for a living" should know that the ability to stay on the field is an important attribute when evaluating a football player's performance, or lack there of.

Not sure I would classify a player who has had 3 season ending injuries and missed 95% of all games as a bust. That is normally reserved for under-production when on the field playing, but, either way, it's splitting hairs. Whether Kevin White misses the entire season or not, he cannot be counted on anymore, even on a team as thin at WR as the Bears are.

He's pretty much fighting for a roster spot next season if he's still in the organization, and anything beyond that is a bonus. It's a shame he's a brittle as glass and that's not a slap at him.

One of the dumb (football) cliches that I actually agree with is "The greatest ability is availability." If there's any HoF where stat accumilators always deserve to get in, it's the NFL HoF. Staying healthy enough to play every week is huge in a sport like football.

What does it matter what you call it? Don't want to call it a "bust"? Fine.

It's a failed top 10 pick. The reasons why don't matter.

You can't have failed top 10 picks if you're going to be a good team.

Goff is getting so mad over the use of the word "bust".

Goff is now mad that Bernstein is calling Len Bias a bust because he died of a cocaine overdose.

The Bears have had 3 top 10 picks in a row. They're gonna have a 4th one next draft. If you hit on all 4 you're a good team. Hitting on them means pro bowlers, because that's the goal with top 10 picks.

White is a bust. Still waiting on Floyd and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. You better get next year right, Ryan Pace. Only so many times a GM is allowed to draft in the top 10 before being fired.

He's like Mark Fidrych or Wally Bunker or Britt Burns or a hundred other guys who had one or two great seasons when they were very young and then broke down.

Not a bust at all though; just got hurt, and never recovered.

No.

I see what you're saying if you're considering all things to be equal, but I think expectations matter.

If I had told you when he was a rookie that Prior would end up with 40-some wins, would you have been happy with that?

Yeah but Prior showed he was good. All hail the 'roids!

White never showed anything.

I turned on the show at about 5:45 to hear "It was good to have that last sack at the end of the game." He then applauded callers for being reasonable all day.

Two things there:

1) Fuck off! What kind of dickhead whose success is enhanced by Bears success would say something like that? Did he say that coming out of this weekend with the Cubs? Pure, unadulterated dickheadedness.

2) Fuck off again! Reasonable callers suck. Enjoy your reasonable discussions with reasonable callers when the Cub season ends and pray for reasonable reactions from management to your reasonable ratings.

How many times does Bernstein have to tell you listeners that he hates you before you believe it?

Bears Monday should be the easiest shifts of the year for a sports radio talker in this city. Open up the lines and let people emote. It's fun and cathartic. Not reasonable Dan who has watched the lines not the ball even when he was a child because he is a more sophisticated consumer than you.

You guys can focus on Goff all you want. I'm generally cool with him at the station. It is that turd of a human being Bernstein that is the cancer.

How does that make the listener feel like he's smarter than most fans?

I think people lose focus on the source of all that is wrong with the station.

I guess Mitch can take the blame as well. He empowered North and he empowers Bernstein with bad results on each account.
