The publisher needs to make a correction to this one...

15 years talking sports and 10 years nodding his head and saying "I agree" through an ISDN line

I'm not in a hurry to endure Terry Boers' best in-print Dick Vermeil impersonation.

Those "essays" he wrote and read aloud in his last year or so were entirely too sappy - for my tastes, at least.

It didn't really strike me as good writing, either.

Certainly not with the way you use commas.

You don't hear Terry's name used much at the station. I wonder how much his great friends have kept in contact with him and vice versa?

Um, no.

Using the comma is entirely my prerogative, Newbie!

Terry was on with Dan and Jason for the Derby. I guess that was a while ago.

Will it sell over 10k copies?

Under. Not enough market I would say.

I think you're right. Even if it's a good book the audience for it is relatively small.

Yeah it's definitely a niche market.

He would sell many more if he offered digital copies, but it looks like he may have some sort of Luddite-esque paranoia about someone sending around his work for free.

This will probably hurt the sales - big time.

If I was even going to think of buying this book, it would have to be an incredibly easy venture that could indulge my impulse-buying side - a la digital, "buy now-read now".

That will never happen with a paperback that arrives via snail mail.

Buy one bad book get one free? These have to be a combo purchase, right?

I could never read an Ed Sherman book without thinking of that horrible nasally voice.

Timing is everything. He sounds pretty friendly with B&G right now.

Requirements for me to read this book:
1) A chapter on TB Diddlers
2) An unedited chapter on the Jordan years

I won't hold my breath

Like when he complained about the filthy Deadheads trekking to Tinley Park every year? The Grateful Dead played one three-show run there in the summer of 1990, but he remembered them tying up traffic every year.

Did. Not. Happen.

The smell lingered for years thereafter.

About halfway through. Nothing really Earth shattering yet other than the mention that Abbatacola never really liked Bernstein. Chapters alternate between personal and professional.

Gives great credit for the Score's success to Ditka and the legitimacy he lent the station.

About to dig into the Murph chapter.

Is the book ample enough to provide protection in a tornado?

Nah it's a quick 200 pages or so.

Nothing new in the Murph chapter other than a story about 2 of Murph's producers wanting to jump him in the parking lot and beat him with socks full of nickels.

Is it true that Bernsie beat the shit out of his kid in the parking lot after he said the Bears were "flat"?

Finished it up last night. Only other memorable chapters were on his health issues and the hell he went through. I can't believe he stayed on the air as long as he did.

Nice little read.

What did his health issues end up being?
