Bruce Wolf doesn't have a job. So nowhere to hear it.

Bruce Wolf was successful enough ( and more successful than Goff will ever be) in this industry that he doesnt need a job. Playa' would get his Range Rover repo'd in 2 months when he gets shitcanned. Wolf wins.

What do you consider successful enough? At his peak he was given 5 minutes an hour on Johnny B followed by a short-lived and uncomfortable pairing with Dahl on the original WMVP. He did a bit of TV sports on WFLD and a had a low-rated radio talk show before fading into Coppock-land. I’m sure he did ok but he certainly never broke the bank. Guys like Wolf, North, Coppock and probably even Mac wish they had Goff’s gig these days.

All those guys you mentioned except for Mac are in their mid 60s to early 70s. Of course they would take Goff's gig today. Goff would be lucky to have a percentage of any of those their careers.

All of those names are widely known not just in sports talk but in general radio in this city. North, Coppock and Mac made millions in their careers. Wolf at least made enough to support a suburban lifestyle with a house full of kids.

I just looked it up, 18 years doing sports for Fox. I'd call that a success.

Bruce Wolf was part of arguably the best talk radio station of all time. Jason hit the button that played the clip of Homer Simpson saying "gay" and then bragged about leasing a Range Rover. This is a dumb argument, Bruce did fine.

I liked when Bruce Wolf was paired up with Dan Proft on WLS. I thought they were a good duo because Wolf was wacky and Proft was always pretty serious and would get annoyed with Wolf's mannerisms.

I never listened to it, but Bruce Wolf was good on 670 during the no-airshifts-for-board-ops era that also brought in Rozner and Rosenbloom to steal shifts from Drinky and Rock Mamola.

Wolf does seem to have gone off the deep end in the last decade.

I've heard him speak at a couple of events. He seems brilliant and awkward.

Wolf's point remains valid, that Bernstein wants to play the sjw role but won't have a woman on his show. Get somebody like Lauren Magiera from WGN to sit in one day over Christmas.

(Actually, she'd be a better guest for Mac's podcast as she's into hunting and fishing.)

That’s a very low bar Nicklin. Goff is one of the worst full time sports hosts in Chicago’s history. Hell, I’d rather listen to Murph than Goff.

Those guys are all bad too. I can listen to bad sports radio but Goff is not only annoying and bad at his job but he continually pisses me off where I turn it off.

People rip on Murph as if he didn't have great ratings for a decade+ at the station and was a Score original.

drinky and Goff always felt emboldened to make fun of the guy and meanwhile they would be lucky to have his success in their careers.

Except for when he had morning drive (and thrived there), Murph never seemed embraced by his own station so much as begrudgingly tolerated. Was he even on the station between when North moved to mornings and B&B moved to afternoons?

He had that 2 hour mid-morning shift I've always enjoyed Murph.

You could have said the same thing about Les if he hadn't got hungry. Let's not equate longevity with greatness. Murph owed his career to Fred, they worked well together because they kept each other on target, were fans of different teams and sports etc. As soon as Murph was separated from Fred, his show (especially his "bits") sucked. Fred (much like he was with North) kept Murph on track, kept the bad segments shorter.

Those who lionize Murph forget sports spurts, "latins in the audience", Judge Murph etc. Two of the worst bits of all time. "no no, Murph is out in the hall, this is Judge Murph" Murph treated beginning level guys poorly, this is documented and precisely why Matty and Jason still rip on him. Both helped with his show.

Murph and Fred was the first show I ever called into...they got a ton of callers on the air. They were one of the best shows at promoting the "voice of the fan". But the day Fred left, it just went downhill.

That's just the way it is-Les

I've said it b4 and I'll say it again: grobber's living his dream. The dude worked like 10pm-5am thrn drove up to Miller park to get fresh tape from Manny Ramirez for a 1pm first pitch right b4 he came to the white sox. All the media guides and stuff Bernstein would make fun of him for? That's how I met the guy at the library and we'd just bust off 30min convos talking sports. Les does what he loves and he's looked our fir me like giving me an easy Craig "little hurt" grebeck trivia question to get a $50 gift card at Bacardi at the park when the white sox opened the season down in Texas some years back.

He's like the antithesis of that one time me and the baseball uncle were at a cubs game and my uncle spotted don Sutton and goes "hey you're don Sutton" and the fro'd out wonder flipped us off and ran away. Les will talk to yoy for 15-30+ mins cuz it's what he does !!

Seriously, Murphy and pappy were great to call but I'll pretty much only call into Les. I have to throw it on at night cuz I've been keeping myself gainfully unemployed lately =P

It's probably because he was a jagoff that literally everyone at the station hated working with.

Right, he had noon-2 after B&B moved to afternoons. But there was a window between when North moved from afternoons to mornings (displacing Murph) and when B&B moved from middays to afternoons that I suppose Murph was either doing non-Blackhawks/DePaul/NIU evenings or nothing at all.

Thanks Fred.

You do know Murph was at the Score pulling ratings for years before Fred, don't you?

Murph had good numbers in the evenings. He had good numbers in mornings (where all previous morning shows had failed). He then had good numbers in mid days. If I remember correctly for years his show always saw an increase in numbers from his lead in and he beat the average number the station was pulling.

I'm sorry he was mean to drinky. He was clearly a self motivated employee who was always willing to give his best...to sponsor's wives.

For a while when MJH was really humming, Murph was the only Score host winning head-to-head with 1000. I believe that means Mully and Hanley were losing to the team of Sean Salisbury and Steve Rosenbloom.

The clashes Murph had with his producers always seemed to be rooted in Murph not being a natural and feeling he had to prep really hard for every show. Most lower-level Score employees are dullards who have to be instructed not to get Fritos crumbs in the console and then still get resentful about it. Murph needed hungrier producers (they are out there) than the Score ever gave him.

I would tell you to stick to something you actually know, but after 1000's of posts whatever you know is still not apparent yet.

MEOW.
