As I said, it's a non-story because it involves one of the best and most marketable stars in the league. This would be a non-story if it was Todd Gurley too.

So, if they had to release him, couldn't they just re-sign right away?

I'm not sure. You and Jaw Breaker raise some interesting questions.

I chuckled at the headline when I saw it a couple days ago and never thought to actually look into it, given the absurdity of the headline.

If he's released it's done by waiver order, why the Browns would be the ones who should sue.

No. They couldn't resign him. He's under contract for at least 2 more years I think. So he goes on waivers. Worst team gets the first claim. So the Browns would get him and his current contract.

Except here in the real world he stays on the Packers and the Browns continue to suck.

It could help the Packers. They aren't doing much with him. Rebuild.

Because the Packers are getting preferential treatment.

Kind of hard to argue with Frank's point here.

Well that begs the question, preferential to whom?

The superstar player.

I don't blame the NFL.

The Packers.

So if it was a star player on a different team they would be released?

I think Peeps got this one. And it’s hardly unique to the NFL.

 It's very unique to the NFL. To my knowledge, there is no rule in baseball that says if a player comes off the DL, then goes back on to the DL, he has to be released.

Why didn't the NFL just say "Eh, no big deal!"?

Preferential treatment to star players is unique to the NFL? You might have a tough time selling that one.

Thank you for admitting that the Packers are getting preferential treatment here. Apology accepted.

The same logic should have applied to this trade. We can call it the "Rodger close enough" rule.

The Browns should file a grievance. Just see what happens. You didn't break any rules; what's the worst that can happen from trying? other than the GM of the Packers hating you?

Again, comprehension is an issue for you in this thread.

We both agree Rodgers is playing for GB next year. What else is there to talk about here?

Fuck the Browns, why isn't Pace suing and putting in a claim. We should be about 9th in waiver order. What is the point of even pretending to be a rival if you aren't trying to fuck with them.

We both agree John Fox is going to be fired soon. Are we allowed to discuss it?

Why the hell would they have to make up a "new" injury to a different body part? Isn't it obvious that he could have re-injured the same thing that put him on IR the first time? Why is that so hard to understand? Does the rule actually state that players are not allowed to re-injure the same body part?

That would be a new injury.

They admitted they put him back on because playoffs were out if reach and he needed more time for the original injury.

Rodgers to the Browns would make the NFL watchable again.

Ok, I'm going to talk about Rodgers still. You don't have to.

I picture Rodgers being put into the back of a car headed for Cleveland, and as the car pulls away he is looking out of the back window with tearful, plaintive eyes.

They didn't put him on IR a 2nd time with the same injury. I don't believe they assigned a specific injury to him. McCarthy said he was really sore after the game from taking some big hits. They will retroactively say shoulder soreness or something. I understand how a team could stash players on IR but in this specific part of the rules its kind of pointless. Only a good player would be put on IR designated to return. The Packers used their spots on Rodgers and their backup RT who was to be the starting RT this year. Those guys aren't getting stashed. Ideally you would stash most of your draft picks but being on IR keeps you out of practice so it ends up being pointless and teams don't really do it.

I hope the NFL forces Ted Thompson to resign for all of this.
