As he was giving advice to McDoink about buying engagement rings, Bernstein alluded to his "marriage metrics." A texter asked what those are (I think everyone knows what they are: 1. Jewish 2. from a well-to-do family) he said "when choosing from your cloud of candidates..." and then something about them having "...things on your checklist."

Zawaski said: "I thought the most important thing would be someone who could tolerate you."

Someone whose parents were married for a long time was also on the checklist.

Are you saying it isn't good advice by Bernstein?

I would bet good quid that the 50% of that number who are divorcees is predominantly from the unconventional/distressed/broken home pile.

Once you have SEEN divorce firsthand - once you have seen people bailing after saying "no mas" instead of figuring things out or having made a good choice of each other in the first place - I would figure that it is then always in your bag as an option. What you see the authority figures in your life do when they handle adversity, you tend to lean toward, even if only sub-consciously. That's why they say "suicide runs in the family" as well. Same principle. That's how the person you respected the most did things when the going got tough.

It's cringe worthy radio, and some of the worst advice you could give someone. Let her pick out the ring. Ask beforehand.
