It's not that big of a deal. If Bernstein brings in lots of cash or goes above and beyond a couple hundred is a way to say thank you and you're appreciated. It's not uncommon for charities to do that. Maybe all should go to the charity but it keeps people having the feel goods.

Well I just reviewed their Form 990 filing (these are public on IRS site). Lots of money going towards salaries, advertising and travel. They spent about $862k on those items against $1.7M in contributions. I suspect lots of the salaries are simply a function of their mission, so who knows.
