Because he was white with a mustache and tough. And the fact that lots of people say he was the best. They hate that because he's white and they want only black players to be considered the best. Ya know, cuz they're woke and all. And if you say Dick Butkus was the best LB it means you are racist. |

LoHo’s lede was about the time he went to Canton to cover Urlacher’s induction. He got there early, went to the museum and saw a picture of Doug Buffone, which made him cry. Great remembrance of Butkus. |

Great remembrance of Butkus. yeah, i heard that. loho threw more flowers than dan. dan said he didn't remember butkus play, didn't see him. only bits and pieces from the famous nfl films and facenda narration. i'm there with him ,i don't remember him playing. earliest bear recollections are of abe gibron and ken grandberry. |

caught a few minutes just now Larry said he talked to Butkus a few times, and it was great bc of Doug Buffone or something. It would have been so awesome if Doug was around to talk about Butkus but he's not |

Always find it silly when Bernstein belittles the guys from previous eras, he forgets they did not have access to modern training methods, often had to work a job in the offseason, did not have the travel advantages, and played with very little medical support. Edmunds might run a lot faster, have less body fat, and jump higher than Butkus, but he cannot meet a guard or center in the hole and blow him up like Butkus did back in the day. |

Bernstein talked shit about Butkus when he was alive. Like has been said. Bernstein thought that it was just old/racist white people saying he was great when he really wasn't. Never mind that he really was a great linebacker/athlete. That didn't matter to Bernstein. Didn't fit his narrative. |

Back around 2006, maybe 2007 there was a promo for Bears Mondays where they ran down the schedule playing clips of North, Mully, Hanley, Murph, and Terry. They're all sounding semi-knowledgeable about football and then it goes [Rusty voice] DAN BERNSTEIN: "BRIAN URLACHER IS BETTER THAN DICK BUTKUS!" in the most aggrieved, whiny voice possible. It was so out of place that Dan himself spent like an entire segment playing it back and laughing at what a bad pull it was. |

In a sense, Bernstein weaponized Dick Butkus when he started as a Chicago talk show host. He used the Dick Butkus love to label the certain type of "white" sports fan that Dan despises. The kind that smokes marlboros, loves to tail gate, still have high school buddies that talk about the football glory days... Goff: Da Ma Na Beardown: Christ!! Where the hell did you come from? But yes, the Da Ma Na types. Bernstein hates them and he taught you and Larry to hate them as well...and assume they are racists. |

I saw idiots on Facebook saying "there will never be another slow 6 foot tall linebacker in the NFL." I can only assume they get their "information" from dan bernstein. |
