Well, Polio was far [less] dangerous than early COVID. At the peak of Polio, around 57k were either paralyzed or died from it. Only 5 years did over 30k get either paralyzed or die from it. Deaths were in the 2k range per year. COVID killed more in one day than Polio did in a year.
