He is a Hall of Fame player. Makes him more than simply a talent. Lance Stephenson was a talent whatever that means. Anthony's teams made the playoffs his first 9 years in the league and every team he has played on has improved record wise. That includes the Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony is a difference making player. Consider what the Denver Nuggets were prior to his arrival. He also was one of the better players on the various Olympic teams that he participated on. The media and a lot of fans are on his back because he engineered a trade out of Denver. He was not the reason that the Knicks were losing though he took most of the blame. That was the product of a coach who did not properly recognize the personnel on own team. The whole "Linsanity" hype machine had much more to do with the Knicks losing than Carmelo Anthony.

I loved him at Syracuse but he has to have one of the most useless great careers in NBA history.

That is why your "bet on yourself" option was always a terrible idea for him. No way he'd have ever recouped the lost bread.

In hindsight he made the right decision. His style of play wasn't exactly the type where you go from being great to sucking almost overnight.

He will never be in the same conversation as his contemporary stars, and I will always appreciate that. When discussing the current era, Kobe, Wade, LeBron, Pierce and countless others will be brought up before Carmelo. He will go into the Hall of Fame and whenever he is brought up, people will discuss how he could have been a lot better if he had the mentality of a winner. Naturally gifted, but no ability to improve himself or adapt his game.
