Ah yes. Can't run a Cover-2 without an excellent three-technique.

Anyway, this year's is shaping up to be "stop demanding that the Bears blitz more/the Bears need to put more pressure on the quarterback."

You have to have some esoteric football language for it to qualify. Dan doesn't choose an area of focus unless he can use "will, sam, mike, three techinique, wide 9" etc. in order to lose 50% of his audience and amaze another 10%. When listeners catch up on the phrase he he moves on to the next term.

I didn't know what a Wide 9 was so I googled it.

Apparently the buzzword around the NFL for sounding like you know what you’re talking about is the phrase “wide nine.”

I hope this is just the first of a lengthy series of posts explaining buzzwords you can say to make it sound like you know about football when you really don't. I for one would find that quite useful.

They have encapsulated Bernstien.

The gaps on that page seem strange to me. I learned it as 1, 3, 5 were the gaps between moving outwards from the C and OG with corresponding even numbers to the right. Obviously the 7 gap would be a little wide and the 9 would be so wide the end could almost line himself up parallel to the line of scrimmage.

For someone that would seemingly hate them Bernsie is really a cliche lover

Chris Brown is pretty fucking great. The Essential Smart Football is a fantastic book. You will immediately know more about Xs and Os than anyone on the radio.

The diagram is confusing because there's no TE. 8 would be lined up over the TE, and if there were a TE, 9 would be outside of that.

Exactly how stupid Americans are for making football the most popular sport.

Last nights game was every bit as boring as an average baseball game.

Except without the nuance.

Couldn't be more false. Football is probably more complex and nuanced than baseball. There's countless different angles and options for all 22 guys on the field. There's much more to study and notice and try to understand than in baseball.
