I get where the caller is coming from. Football is theater, and people want to believe they're really fighting it out. Shake hands and hug after the game hits zeroes, but not before. It's not a radical concept. Baseball has had a rule against fraternizing in uniform on the books for years. I don't really give a shit, but I get where he's coming from.

The show is just not very enjoyable when Bernstein goes out of his way to be a complete jerk to caller after caller. I think most listeners enjoy the occasional beatdown of a caller who doesn't have an idea what's he's talking about. Instead, it's become Bernstein picking at a caller's word usage or deciding to play dumb to a question and come off like he's completely disinterested.

My belief is that Bernstein, like North before him when he verged off into politics and various other uninteresting topics, is tired with sports. Yes, he still enjoys them, but doesn't like talking about them with people who are beneath him. Instead, he'd rather focus his time on the edges of sport like the Penn St story, Lance Armstrong, concussions.
