Anyone know his age? As an original he has to be pushing 60. It sucks to have the rug pulled out from under you as I'm sure he was relying on that job to take him into retirement.

Very interesting thread, as arer those in MP section. "You see a lot, Doctor(s)." -- Clarise Starling. Just a point of fact regarding Bear Down's thoughts on sendoffs. I got nothing (and liked it?) twice is correct, but I wasn't fired either time. Resigned 10/24/00 and again 6/15/14. I've been fired from three media jobs: The Hammond Times (7/1/87), ESPN (1/16/09) and The Drive (6/15/16).

He isn't going away based on what I read. He will fill in on weekends and other odd times, probably until his contract expires or has so little amount of
time on it that they feel they can buy him out.

I see. Have Haugh join when Bears camp and preseason get really going.

It's going to really suck when Mully & Hanley ends. They ran the perfect morning show. Not a big fan of Haugh.

I had some hope that they'd come to some eleventh-hour agreement and keep Hanley on a little longer.

Horrible. Those 55-65 years have to be the absolute worst for losing a situation. Luckily, I don't think he has a family and has been making good money the last decade. He also has marketable skills both as a journalist and radio personality but now he will have to scramble.

if he has no kids and no wife... and still has no money after working real jobs his whole adult life and doing morning drive for the last 10 years... then that's on him.

i'll miss him on the morning show. was a quality host who did a good job in the role he was asked to do. david haugh is just the worst though. apparently decastro was happy with the game's 8 month existence as he brings over the talent to WSCR that couldnt make that crap station work. finfer would have a job by now if he hadn't made such a scene.

I came around to Hanley. I think RPB's Hanley scale helped me understand not to take him too seriously. He talked a lot of Bears and Chicago Baseball, which is honestly what I want out of my show. As CH pointed out, you could count on M&H to talk about last night's games.

I’m sure they had a long rant about how terrible Brewers fans were for cheering Hader right ?

Haley sounding a little choked up, hard to blame him.

Did Mulligan say he'd be "looking for a weapon" if he had been treated the way Hanley has been treated?

Yep.

Hanley is a pro's pro.

DeCastro can fuck off.

Yeah mully said that. Definite choking up at the end here... Have they announced Haugh as his replacement yet?

Are they gonna do transition with Bernstein and Hub to take a little bit of the edge off of this Springsteen ending?

The worst part is Haugh is fucking terrible. He's a combination of everything bad about every other host in town.

I'm okay with Haugh in small doses, but like Telander, he's probably not good on a full show.

So Mully has been to every queer soccer match in Euro, but never Cooperstown. They fire the wrong guy.

Yeah, that was kind of weird...you'd think after so many decades in the biz, he would have found his way there once, even by accident.

Hey he's got the KapMan shine! He's also part of the social justice that is proving the game didn't fail because of DeCastro... It waa that damn transmitter/frequency/etc!

What song do you think Goff woulda closed out on if he got a chance to have the goodbye moment like Hanley just did?

The lack of professionalism is shocking. Hanley was at the station from day one, and there for over two decades, and DiCastro doesn't have the common decency to tell him why he was fired.

I'm glad they didn't do transition and risk having Bernstein ruin everything by making some idiotic, long-winded speech.

McKnight has a hosting job and Hanley is fired.

And it seems the reason he was fired was because DeCastro wanted him gone. Period. Smartest guy in the room syndrome.

I agree with Cashman. DeCastro is a piece of shit.

The reason is Hanley is old and doesnt have enough cache to justify being older than the Score would prefer. That's it. Pretty obvious.

Its probably money. Hanley is likely making six figures more than McDoink is.

appeal to a younger audience by replacing a 60 year old newspaper columnist with a 50 year old newspaper columnist... sounds about right

And DeCastro is what, in his 60s? What does he know what's "young and hip"?

He wanted Haugh in there, desreved or not.

as it was explained to me, decastro is rich... owns a successful business and does not need the salary ... so ego is the only explanation as to why he is taking this job on.

Im not saying it makes sense, but Haugh does profile as younger. Hanley has a certain old man-ish quality about him.

This. Plus this way he can say he fixed all three shows.

Haugh is a perfectly acceptable guest and a terrible host. And he'll work cheaper than Hanley because he has a family and kids to put through school, and who the fuck knows what'll happen to the Tribune.
