Mulligan picked an odd battle this morning. For a guy who has pretty much slurped the Cubs all year, he went off at someone suggesting that Hendricks is a Cy Young candidate if he continues pitching this way the rest of the year. Not sure why this offended him so much... I've heard both Cubs and Sox fans say way dumber things than that before. Additionally, is the guy even wrong? I mean, there's a HUGE assumption that Hendricks will continue at this level the rest of the year, but if he did, isn't it pretty much inarguable that he would be in the discussion at the end of the year?

Arrieta might be a mirage by the end of the year.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Another arguement he made is that Hendricks has been going up against other team's #5 guy all season when he has actually faced more aces than Arrieta or Lester.

Yeah, that was terribly stupid. This isn't 1928.

I don't see how anybody overtakes Strasburg this year..he's like 16-1 with a 2.59 era.

These on air guys have to talk. So they talk...and a lot of stupid shit comes out...and they certainly make up their own narratives. Today I heard Goff saying how Cubs fans need to back off this Kyle Hendricks stuff and that it was ok for Cubs fans to say that Hendricks is a good, maybe very good pitcher. Well who the fuck is saying anything else? If one fuck nut calls and says he could be cy young candidate....then all Cubs fans suddenly think this?? I have heard Maddux name mentioned when talking about Hendricks. They are talking about style of pitching not career trajectory. But these on air guys take it...and run with it,...just trying to move the needles. The CSFMB peeps also take shit like this and then make blanket statements against an entire fan base. Cubs or Sox....doesn't matter.

So...who fucking cares really these guys say? I'm just looking for actual news...and of course entertainment. I can laugh at / with these goofs all the time.

Relax there, buddy. It's not like anyone is writing letters to CBS. If people didn't care what they said, then their "narratives" wouldn't work.

Anyway, your point about Maddux is correct. No one in the world is saying Hendricks is Maddux or is going to be Maddux. For God's sake, Maddux is arguably one of the five best pitchers of all-time. People are just saying that his pitching style is similar - nothing more, nothing less. It's okay to compare guys to other guys without saying they're going to have the same career.

He'll have a better career than Maddux

Les had a caller (55-65 age range ... had to be) ... suggested that the Cubs purchase the services of MAAdox to teach Hendricks how to pitch ... said MAAdox three times ... hopefully a tree fell on the guy overnight.

That didn't last long.

This is between Bumgarner and Hendricks, with Bumgarner having an advantage.

Arrieta and Strasburg trail them. Cueto and deGrom are next up.

**I have the right to revise these guesses once I think about it more.

Don't forget Hammel.

I don't think Hendrick has much of a chance. Too few innings pitched.

Good season. Deserves some charity 3/4/5 place votes (if those exist) but not a 1st place Cy Young one .
