On the 10/2 show Mulli and Haugh did essentially what boiled down to a pre-screen interview for public opinion.

Before I get to Joe G’s answers I’ll begrudgingly admit that both Mu&H did a very good job. Frankly, I’ve never heard a more professional interview from the Irish dumb arse we all know and hate. He was concise, eliminated nonsensical extraneous rambling, and actually posed questions. Haugh, also, posed very solid questions..

All in all, good radio.

As far as Joe G goes, I was impressed. Not surprised because dude is clearly sharp and articulate. At the same time, he seemed to fit the mold of Theo’s descriptor of not hiring the best interview.

My conclusion: Girardi would be an effective hire, but has no chance under the desires of the current administration.

One of the people on the show this morning made a very good point: Theo cannot talk about the need for a field manager who stresses accountability while insisting upon a glorified babysitter sent down from the front office like Mark Loretta, because the players will recognize that such a manager is only there to hand an umpire a lineup card and has no authority nor autonomy with which to demand accountability. The days of martinet managers may be over, but I don't think office-stooge managers are the way of the future, either, because that shit has a way of not working when the roster isn't loaded. A.J. Hinch was such a disaster with the Diamondbacks that I was surprised he ever got another job in baseball.

You’ve set up unnecessary false extremes here.

Discussion of Girardi to the Cubs is a banned topic on Les's show. Bring it up and he'll hang up. But he brings up the M & H Girardi interview. Les is losing his mind fast.
