I really wish he would take his "my nuts are being squeezed" screamy voice right out of town.

I'm not a fan of his. I think the Bears could do so much better. His "go to" phrases seem so forced & fake...I hate it. He is ridiculous!

Not terrible but not good either. There has to be a better choice out there.

Would have been the Bears, I think. (Are you surprised?) Larrivee went to the Packers when the Bears went to WMAQ, and WGN kept him on for Bulls games, so it's gotta be the McClaskeys trowin' nickels aroun' like manhole covers.

And yeah, Joniak annoys me.

just think of the untold millions larrivee is missing out on by not catering http://www.yourdagger.com to the chicago market. it's a hard knock life like that.

joniak has been there for as long as i've been listening to the bears on the radio. he's just kind of there... it's all about thayer.

i remember one day i was hanging out with some sort of a sign-wielding homeless veteran on a big ol concrete divider on sheridan right by the loyola red line station. as we were discussing his 70s wetwork resume a blacked out BMW with heavy tints rolls up and i behold the silhouette of a large white dude with a shaved head casually drop a $50 on this guy in one smooth motion while stopping at the light. i was like "...wait a minute, this dude looks familiar" and then right as he's pulling off i notice the ND license plate/holder/whatever and i yell out "TOM THAYER?!?!?!" and he drove off with his fist raised out the window.

for all i know joniak might have been in the passenger seat trying to come up with some sort of a #TrendworthyCatchphrase to self-promote, to be fair.

Sinicalypse, I think you were hanging out with a gay prostitute.

Thayer is terrible, too. He's a little less mouth breathey than Butkus was, but he yells "BALL" just as annoyingly.

Joniak, has the fake feel of the attempt to sound like the NFL films guy.

I think he has got better, but still average at best

They changed the name to Osterman Beach but, yeah, still plenty of that going on.

Larrivee went to the Packers because it was his dream job.

The Bears don't pay Joniak. Nor did they pay Larrivee.

Other than that, you assumption is 100% correct.

Never thought Joniak had the pipes to do play by play. His voice is almost drowned out by the crowd noise. Now Larivee--those are some pipes. That guy's right out of central casting, toupee and all.

He should be paying the Bears to do it.

Radio pxp, just like classic stadium renovation, yet another thing the Packers do better than the Bears do. What an indignity.

I swear to Christ, Jeff Joniak is 100x worse than Hawk. He's shrill and yelly and never shuts the fuck up. Why does his dumb ass get a pass when Hawk doesn't?

Because football is a TV show. Bitching about Jeff Joniak carries the heavy opportunity cost of not bitching about Joe Buck, Thom Brennaman, or the other national idiots.

Joniak does a weird thing with his voice where, for instance, "sideline" comes out more like "sadlan."

Or because you hear Joniak 20x per year, maybe 21 every once in awhile (heh). You hear Hawk almost 200x per year. There's no escape.

people love to bitch about anything... joniak is 100 times better than he was when he first got the job... if you need the bears radio broadcast for anything other than an emergency you are doing it wrong.... seriously... if you cant be in front of a TV why not DVR the game and watch it when you get home (even better if you can avoid finding out the score of the game)
