I just watched today's SportTalk Live and Grote looked unkempt, glassy-eyed and off his game. He sounded different than normal. I know he just got the pre and postgame gig as host for the Cubs radio broadcasts this year, so maybe he was celebrating the new job, but he's been treated for alcoholism and I doubt the big shooters at WBBM would want him hitting the juice again. Did anyone else see the show and have the same reaction ?

I'll give Grote the benefit of the doubt that he didn't hit the sauce, but something was wrong. He didn't sound the same (slurred speach/spoke softly), he was slouched over, his shirt was unbuttoned, and hair a mess. Hopefully it was just a lack of sleep or he was feeling under the weather because he has a golden opportunity with the Cubs gig, you'd hate to see him squander it already.

He sounded fine on the radio today. He did say something about not getting much sleep if I recall.

If he stays up a little late or has something on his mind and doesnt sleep well, I think the 3 AM daily wake up really starts to hit home about 2 PM...just from a 6 month period of this schedule, I would tell you it hurts. Its just terrible. You dont sleep well when you do sleep, you are tired when then you are awake.

I have said the reason Grote hit the sauce was to relax and try and sleep. Got a feeling he wasnt so much a suit/jacket guy. he is a radio guy! lol
