Dr. Drew must really be hurting for stars for his show. He must be taking Mike Starr's place.

I'm glad he's finally getting help as well, but not even his family is looking forward to hearing him on the airwaves again.

Someone also needs to punch him in the dick for that smirk he is giving in the mugshot.

harry seems like a good guy with a big problem. i am glad he is addressing it. he is one of the foundations that chicago sports radio has been built on, and his return will no doubt be triumphant.

Rehab only works if you actually want to stop drinking/drugs/prostitutes/etc, is this merely a ploy for his employer?

How long until the relapse??

It's going to happen

Am I the only cynical one here that thinks he is doing this as a requirement or for show? It thought if you had an issue like this an employer has to offer you help, if you refuse they can fire you. If you accept it looks as though you are trying to clean up and they can't fire you.

I think he's at a bar right now doing shots saying in his Harry voice nah I was partying, got caught, and now they are making me do rehab.

i dont think that is cynical. it may be true. but it is inconsequential, as long as something is being done. sometimes people affected by things like alcoholism can't easily decide "its time to get help" without a loved one or an employer getting involved.

But I don't think he will change. This is rehab like when Lindsay Lohan goes to rehab.

what makes you think that he wont change? i havent ever met the guy, so i dont claim to know what makes the guy tick, but why would you assume that when he goes to get help that he is doomed to failure? because he has a history of drinking? everyone in rehab has a history of drug dependancy. has he been in and out of rehab before? i dont know, its a serious question.

Harry's whole life is a party, this would stop the party. Nothing he does has substance or anything serious associated with it. He will literally have no base for existence, there is nothing to focus on, because there is nothing else to him. He is all schtick or glad handing, there is no work involved. Rehab would be a lot of work that I don't think he is capable of. I'm guessing his attitude right now is aw man I don't want to be doing this, I don't need it, I just want to go back to my tequila. I'm not hurting anybody and this is all bullcrap.

I admire the man's spirit and initiative in attempting to combat this insidious affliction that has overcome him.
Battling demon rum and reefer madness at the same time is close to impossible, but I know Harry has what it takes to be a winner.
I also hope that he is able to form a tight bond with whatever higher power he chooses to believe in.
Miss Spaulding, you are becoming a real "Debbie Downer," young lady.

If anyone believes I was serious when I posted the steaming pile of dog crap in the previous post,
you must be as drunk and high as Harry was when the cops pulled him over.

I don't believe that at all, but I also don't think that Harry believes his life needs improving.

Harry is doing it because he has to save his job. Looking at the statement you could see that much. Why issue a press release about it?

unless you are close to him personally somehow, how are you able to make that judgement about him?

Fire his sorry ass anyway. He's pathetic and a danger to everyone else. Rehab isn't going to work, doing it to try to retain his job. Fuck him.

Just wait til he's back on the air and he goes to his first, post-rehab remote at a bar....

that certainly could be true, no argument, but if that is what it takes to combat the problem, what difference does it make? as long as he is finally getting the help he needs, why be picky about the reason - just get the help. i imagine most alcoholics only decide to get help because of intervention from outside, not because one day they recognize they have a problem on their own and decide to go in and get it fixed.

agreed, that seems like a bad mix. hard to imagine that is healthy for a recovering alcoholic. or maybe its the opposite, and it would be theraputic? that doesnt seem likely, but who knows.

I could be completely wrong. Just an opinion from what I've obsereved or based on things he has said. Unless you are close to him how would you know that his rehab is really because he wants to change? We don't know anything for sure. If he is serious I wish him luck but I don't get the feeling he is. I think this is it for his chances though, it's his last one from ESPN, I'm guessing.

It's going to be very hard for him to quit with his lifestyle. Everything we know of the guy involves sports; whether that be horse racing or any of the professional Chicago teams. Watching sports + Alcohol = match. Not to mention his job. Whether or not he partakes in the remotes any longer, he still has to hear about alcohol with all the sponsoring the major beer vendors do with sports radio. Good luck to him - he's going to need it...

i dont have any idea if he really wants to change or why he is in rehab. its a moot point. im just glad he is getting help. i dont agree with criticizing the reason why he is in rehab. getting substance dependent people into rehab is often very difficult.
