Cub fans can only hope his middle finger will be 100% by March of 2009.

Yeah, nothing says funny like an injury.

Hah! I stand corrected and admit the irony. I actually don't mean for the avatar to be funny. I think motorcycle riders are nuts, but that's a discussion for another thread.
However, I cede the point based on the inherent irony.

You guys are lying, about Soriano battin leadoff. You're wrong. You don't know anything about baseball, dude.

Kenny Lofton will play centerfield, and bat leadoff for the Chicago Cubs. He's an ageless wonder.

And you guys want, Soriano??

It appears Soriano will now be batting second in the lineup with Theriot the new leadoff hitter ( or until Roberts becomes a Cub).

I am glad Soriano is out of the lead off spot but a #2 hitter? I can see the pros and cons with this move. The advantage of Soriano hitting second is that he should still see fastballs batting ahead of Lee and Ramirez, and if you have a guy who can steal a base ahead of Soriano then he might see even more fastballs.

Plus it seemed to me when Soriano batted lower in the lineup he pressed and expanded an even bigger strike zone.

Of course, with Soriano batting #2 you won't see any hit and runs or shooting the ball in the hole between first and second. Not a prototypical number 2 guy.

But if Fukodome can handle batting #5 (and that is a question), then I can see this move working out.

i doubt lou will keep this going forward into the regular season. the only way soriano isnt leading off opening day is thr brian roberts trade or he gets hurt again.

i think soriano batting 2nd is worse than him batting leadoff. at least batting leadoff, his only thought for the most part is just getting on base, getting a hit or a rare walk or jack another leadoff homer. batting 2nd you have to set the table for lee and ramirez, take one for the team and try to punch one through the right side. you cant hit and run with him. i cant imagine lou is seriously considering that.

there is no room in this lineup above 5th for this guy. im not bad-mouthing him, either. im glad he is a cub. but his strength at the plate is great power, not contact, and leadoff and number 2 are contact positions. i still think lee, ramirez then soriano would be a serious hammer in the middle of that lineup with theriot (or especially roberts, if they get him) and fukodome getting on base ahead of them. fukodome 5th makes zero sense, since they got him to be an on-base guy! why get an on-base guy to bat him AFTER your power sources?
