Brett Taylor from Bleacher Nation is talking about Cubs trading baez to padres, who literally have nothing the Cubs would want

Plus Zobrist is done for , Play Baez full time at 2b

Since the Cubs seem to want all of these pitchers with arm and shoulder troubles, Hahn should offer Rodon for Schwarber.

Baez and Russell are certainly not untouchable. The Cubs should be looking at trading a little bit of depth in order to strengthen the starting 8, or upgrading pitching. There are three untouchable position players. Everyone else can be moved in the right deal.

Nothing wrong with that deal. They have to put him on the 40 man now and they can put him on the 60 day DL in the spring and see what happens later on. Its a 10 mil lottery ticket.

Plus they get some playoff roster flexibility if Smyly misses the entire season, because he's on the 60-day and can be replaced on the playoff roster with a player who was in the organization by 8/31 but not necessarily on the major league roster by 8/31.

Are you insane. That isn't a good trade for the Sox even today with the uncertainty of Rodon.

How's this for fairness?

Schwarber and Almora from the Cubs
Yellich, Prado (2/28 for a bench guy), and Realmuto from the Marlins
Devers and $25M from the Red Sox

Schwarber and Realmuto to the Red Sox
Almora and Devers to the Marlins
Yellich, Prado, and $25M to cover Prado's salary to the Cubs

Almora is from suburban Miami, he'd immediately become the face of the franchise. Theo saves face in selling Schwarber, and Prado is insurance in case Happ can't cut it every day in LF and has an easily tradeable contract if he can.

Pass.

Yelich is not worth Almora and Scwarber. Prado is 34 and can't be counted on. If you are trading Almora/Schwarber you gotta get proven pitching, preferably controllable.

Yelich will yield a good package from someone desperate...

Christian Yelich is no longer in play as a trade candidate, source confirms. Now that the #Marlins have moved Stanton, Gordon and Ozuna, they can easily afford to keep him. Yelich will make $7M this season and is owed a guaranteed $44.5M through 2021. Club-friendly deal.

That's a good trade for the Cubs.. Rodon is much better than KS.

What, are the Cubs going after every Rays pitcher except the good one?

Agreed, if Baez or Russell where traded for pitching, I would not be upset. I would love to see them sign a closer and use Morrow as a setup man. I have no faith in Edwards in pressure situations. Cubs where exposed in the playoffs because of their lack of relief pitching and poor plate discipline. Hope they go back to 2016 and sit on a few pitches before swinging out of their shoes.

Can we please get rid of Strop. I now MANY look at his stats, but he is another undisciplined pitcher who can't control his emotions in high pressure situations.

Nice move. Still need 1 more dominant bp arm. Be nice to have Davis back. Don't see it though.

With all the Tampa arms coming and the new pitching coach isn't Maddon putting a lot of pressure on himself? If this year fails due to pitching, especially the BP, then he has to answer for it right?

Hey dipshit, Strop has been the only consistently good option out of the pen over the last four years.

Is this Alex Cobb thing dead now? I read where he’s asking for too much $ and it would be better just spending it on Darvish.

I'll be pretty pissed if they get Darvish. He's expensive and a loser.

They say Cobb is asking for $20MM AAV. The Cubs should rightly wait out the market. The asking price on one or more of these guys will come down. Especially if the Yankees complete the Gerrit Cole trade and other similar moves happen.

I tend to agree with Caller Bob.

Now with things settling down I would take Yu over Jake. Just don’t put it on him to win you game 7 of the WS. He’s a solid #2 or #3.

I wonder now if the Dodgers front office forces Darvish on Roberts since it was their big move last year. I don’t know if Theo would’ve done that.

Btw these guys know we still need to get a legit lead off man? Billy Hamilton costs too much?
