This is kind of sad. Best fans in baseball want to believe anything.

When it comes down to it though, all the Cubs really have in their rotation is name recognition.

If I’m the Cardinals I like where we stand. If I’m the Cubs, I can only hope that one of those big names doesn’t go down with an injury.

Cardinal fans are really frustrated by the lack of moves by their team in the offesason so they lash out at the Cubs.

I haven't been paying uch attention, so honest question:
Is Arrieta gone? Which team got him? Thanks.

The rotation is solid 1-5, but I'm not sure if it has a true ace or not anymore.

The Phillies are the team considered the strongest suitor now, but I think Jake is hoping a contending team will offer at least what the Phillies are offering, so he can contend. I would be happy to see him sign with Philadelphia, rather than Washington, St Louis or Milwaukee.

My expectations haven't fallen. I've evolved along with the game of baseball. There are new thresholds for what is good or bad. HR threshold is higher. IP threshold is lower.

The game has changed.

Cubs starters have a combined 1.50 ERA so far in Spring Training.

Lester, Hendricks, Darvish, Q, Chatwood.

Glad we got Eloy for a 4th starter on a contender.

I bet he gets Cy Young votes this year.

For real though him and Hendricks are their best pitchers currently. Sad that Merlot Joe is letting name recognition trump facts.

Darvish has the best stuff.. Here's my prediction for this year.

Lester- 14 -6 ( 3.55)
Hendricks 16-7(3.07)
Darvish 18-8 (2.94)
Quintana 16- 8 ( 3.22)
Chatwood 14-7 ( 3.88)

Darvish blows. Accept that and adjust your projections accordingly.

Also... you’re a bigger homer than Hawk

I don't trust Darvish in the post season but he's proven in the reg season.

ill be glad to have the Darvish/Playoff conversation when and if the Cubs make it again. Four years in a row would be enough to make me nearly 100% satisfied.

A 3.3 ERA and nearly 80 wins predicted from the starting staff alone

No, nobody on here ever overestimates what the Cubs will do.

Cubs starters have had 64, 81 and 60 wins in the last 3 seasons. Projecting nearly 80 wins is high, but not crazy. Cubs starters have averaged a 3.45 ERA in the last 3 seasons, and that includes spot starts from minor league pitchers. It is easy to agree that the Cubs rotation has been upgraded from last year's.

If 312 is overestimating, he isn't doing it outrageously so.

I'm fairly optimistic with the pitching staff this year. I'm less concerned about the starters than I am the bullpen, specifically Morrow.

Yes he is.

Look, the Cubs rotation clearly is going to be pretty good this season. However they are current without the guy who won 22, 18, and 14 games for them over the past 3 seasons. I do not believe for a second that their rotation will be 78 win and 3.3 ERA good.

Clearly, you don't. But they replaced the guy that seemed to be declining with another Cy Young candidate, and upgraded their #5. It isn't outrageous.

I will miss Arrieta though.
