Cubs get a team record 7. Soriano, Fukudome, Soto, Ramirez, Dempster, Wood, and Zambrano.

Even though he was voted in at LF, I think Soriano should DH at the ASG, if he plays at all.

I was ready to throw a hissy fit about Fukadome starting, but seeing that Ludwick still made the team, I can't complain...

Most likely, the same thing the Sox will achieve...nothing...

Should they be good enough and fortunate enough to have success in October, it's asshats such as yourself who shall be reminded early and often what OUR team achieves in late October. If not, so be it, but coming over here to try and stir shit up is the definition of meathead assholery. Congrats.

Personally, Fukudome and Soriano don't deserve it and I hope the pitchers don't pitch because they need the rest. The ASG has meaning now, but it shouldn't. I hope the NL wins and the Cubs players get out of the game without injury.

Agreed on all accounts.

I hope the NL wins and the Cubs players get plenty of time on the pine.

I think it's an achievement that Cubs fans should be happy about. I'm not going to pee on this parade.
I believe the post-season shot wasn't warranted in this case.

Never confuse individual accomplishments with team accomplishments. Team accomplishments are remembered in the long run. An all-star appearance, not so much. Steve Swisher was an All-Star - just as a reminder.

I'm sure Soriano is none too pleased the Cubs told him that he couldn't participate.

Who, praytell, is confusing individual accomplishments with team accomplishments in this thread?
Also, Soriano gets his ASG bonus money and a paid vacation. IF he says anything sideways about it at all, it's machismo talking. I'm certain he's delighted at getting a paid vacation.

Good Ol' Slick majored in prickery and had a double minor in asshatery and asswipery. He's a peach.

Unfortunately, Pud Selig made this game "mean" something. He is such a dumbfuck.
I don't care how many Cubs make the team. I hope the pitchers get a rest and let the position players play a few innings.
This is much ado about nothing.

Is that Dick Allen in your avatar? Was he ever on the winning side of a playoff game? A lot of second place finishes if my baseball history is correct, 64 Phills, early 70's White Sox.

Steve Swisher only made the All-Star team, because each team MUST have a representative. He was the lone representative, from a bad team that season. When you get 7 guys on the team, that means they all deserved it, because nobody was placed on the team just due to the rule concerning each team being represented. It was a pathetic attempt to discredit a nice accomplishment. 7 out of 32 players on the N.L. team-thats 22% of the team! Thats pretty impressive. Now, hopefully they can help the N.L. win, so the Cubs get the home field advantage in the World Series.

So can you explain how Soriano and Fukodome 'deserved' to be in the all star game over say Carlos Lee, Pat Burrell and/or Corey Hart? I know they were voted in - that doesn't mean they 'deserved' to be there.

in a popularity contest, if person A gets more votes than person B, person A deserves to win the popularity contest.

it's true in all all-star contests...fans make bad decisions...who cares? I'm a Cubs fan and I hope they all sit, which echoes every other Cubs fan here so far. hope for an NL victory and Soriano reinjures himself...

Speak for yourself here.

While Soriano has his weaknesses, I think we need him in our lineup down the stretch.

i am not in favor of fan voting, but if fan voting is how it is going to be, then yeah, whoever gets the most votes deserves to get in.

i think the fan voting is ridiculously unfair, especially if the game now "counts". i would like to see MLB in some way determine who is truly an all-star, and have the players who are having the most deserving seasons get in.

I'd say the same thing if it was another team's player. I'm not a huge fan of the voting contests especially with the internet voting component. When it was in the parks only, at least you had to be at a game to do it, not sitting at your PC with your 30 email addresses voting 25 times.

Alfonso Soriano: 15 HRs, 40 RBIs, .283 (51 games)
Kosuke Fukudome: 7 HRs, 35 RBIs, .287
Carlos Lee: 19 HRs, 67 RBIs, .292
Pat Burrell: 21 HRs, 53 RBIs, .279
Corey Hart: 14 HRs, 55 RBIs, .296
You can make as strong of a case that the non-Cubs "deserved" to be there.
