Damn, took Yost long enough to come get Sheets. To bad he didn't pull something before that came and got him.

If I had their crappy bullpen I would leave him out there as well.

Happy to see Ramirez get 4 hits. After yesterday's hitless game, I was afraid Ramirez might be on the verge of another 0-20 streak.

Fukodome starting to hit again, a good sign.

Not sure why Samardzija is warming up. If he is a guy you are going to use in tight game situations, why waste him with a 7 run lead. Lou's bullpen decisions sometimes mystify me.

my guess would be they are trying to get him used to being in the bullpen and getting work in every other day or so.

IMO, Yost is one of the worse Managers in baseball, like I said before, I catch a lot of Brewers games here on the border and his game time decisions are worse the Dusty any day of the week.

you know, i was thinking today, the air just smells better and life in general improves greatly after a nice win like last night. How could things get better? Well, tonight we found out. What a tremendous effort on behalf of the Cubs tonight. Zambrano clearly has what it takes to win the Cy Young, and it appears the Cubs road troubles are over. The lineup is back at full strength, and the pitching continues to be impressive. Aramis Ramirez shows again why he is one of the better 3rd basemen in the league, and an exceptional cleanup hitter.

Things have turned around for this club. Those of you who tend to worry a lot, and try to shout down the enthusiasm for what is clearly an exceptional team (you know who you are), i have only one thing to say:

relax. relax. relax.

I agree about Yost. After the collaspe they had last year, I;m just happy Larussa doesn't have his roster.

Nice win tonight, guarantees a split, which is just alright with me.
Oh and one more thing, if a dumbass thinks I am a genius, then I must be doing things right.
My man K-thunk gets it.

i agree with you here for sure Zack - but also, even if the Cubs do split, they still leave Milwaukee in first place - albeit without the big Mo'.

With the Cubs having beaten the Brewers top 2 starters, the pressure must really be felt by the Brewers, to try to salvage a game or two. For the Cubs, the pressure should have been lifted, and they should be nice and relaxed, ready to try to really put it on the Brew Crew again tonight and tomorrow, with Dempster and Harden giving them a real chance at a sweep. Parra is a tough pitcher too, so tonight is no gimme and Harden may well have the Cubs leading after 5, but he tends not to go deep into games. Therefore, it's important that Dempster get deep into tonights game, so the bullpen is well rested for tomorrow. But with Bush going tomorrow, the Cubs should get out of Milwaukee with 3 of 4. I have to say, if someone had offered up a split -BEFORE this series started, with the Brewers having just won 9 of 11 and the Cubs having just dropped 7 of 10, I would have been happy to take it. But now they have already won the toughest 2 match-ups and it's easy to want more. The bats are awake again and the big blue train is back on track. :D

If the Cubs end up splitting this series it will feel like a loss at this point. Its amazing how a couple of days can change expectations.

Yup.

And since they've already won the first 2 games, really we shouldn't even consider those games anymore. They're done. They don't affect the next 2 games (aside from minor confidence boosts).

A "split" at this point means splitting the final 2 games for a 3/4 series win.

you can't go out and beat two of the best pitchers in the NL and then lose the next two to inferior pitchers. the cubs need to keep rolling. get their "swagger" back as it were.

Right now the cubs are doing what they fail to do on the road -- hit aggressive and see the ball well. It seems whenever they start a road series they're just going through the motions and mediocre pitchers look dominant. But it's good to see the cubs coming through in such a crucial series when that October feeling is in the air.

THERIOT!

The Brewer outfield really has been exposed this series. Some of the routes taken by the outfielders have been horrendous.

The Big 3 (Lee, Ramirez, and Fukudome) have I believe only a walk between them all. I just glanced at the box score, but everyone else, INCLUDING DEMPSTER, has a hit. In Dempster's case, it kept the inning alive long enough for Theriot to work his magic.

The end result is that the Cubs are doing well the past three games, looking like a fourth game (where's that wood I need to knock on...). But, just imagine to have this level of pitching combined with the aforementioned 3 hitters simultaneously turning it on?

A bullpen arm by the deadline wouldn't hurt either, but that's another chapter in My Life On The Cubs Bi-Polar Roller-Coaster.

I am so sick of watching him sulk back to the dugout after swinging at another off-speed pitch low and away. He's got to get his head out of his ass.
