Doesn't sound like they are in on Bellinger or Yamamoto(who needs a 25 year old ACE in their prime) so it's looking like the 2024 team on paper will be pretty much worse than 2023 unless a prospect comes out of nowhere.

They need to sign Bellinger and or Yamamoto for me to be happy with this offseason.

My fear is Rickett's is turning into Jerry and now that he has his Wrigleyville Land theme park, he is done trying to win.

Yamamoto doesn't want to play in the Midwest. He wants to either be around a bunch of Asians in California, or in New York. Are you really suggesting that they should compete on salary with Steve Cohen? Or are you just being a disagreeable asshole because you don't know anything else?

I thought I read that Yamamoto wanted to play with another Asian (Seiya) doesn't even seem like the Cubs are in the ballpark financially with him. Between Heyward's deal finally expiring and Stroman opting out they should have 50 million a year to play with so who know's what the fuck they are doing with the money

It would be disappointing if they, at best, just resign Bellinger. Are there free agents that the Cubs have been linked to? Chapman at 3B...any front-line starters? Rumors with TB have been in news. I think they will get aggressive and maybe make a move that wasn't on the radar. We'll see, long way to go.

They are going to make significant moves. I don't see a realistic scenario where they enter next season with an upgraded roster. It's just getting harder to see who the most likely targets will be.

Scott Boras is trying to play off his three clients Bellinger, Chapman, and Hoskins against the Cubs, Blue Jays, and Giants. So everyone is going to move at whatever drawn out pace Boras insists on.
