Would you call the Cubs a success the past 6 years?

Mike has conveniently forgotten that 2 of the pieces his beloved White Sox are counting on to be relevant again were part of the waves of talent from the Cubs . See also Torres, Gleyber. Theo guessed wrong on the guys he kept and the ones he went after . The Cubs rebuild resulted in multiple bites at the the apple, sustained success and a Series win. Nothing to apologize for . It took the Dodgers 8 years ( and to have a season be 1/3 it’s normal length ) to win one while having arguably the best starting pitcher since Randy Johnson. Winning is hard . Sox are guaranteed nothing and are still at least 2 arms and a good left handed bat short of being contenders and that’s if no one gets hurt .

Doesn't mean it's the wrong move.

He was set to get 8 or 9 million in arbitration. Technically, the Cubs could still sign him as a free agent at a better price.

They probably won't. If it's even, Kyle will go to another team cuz he's pissed that the Cubs dissed him.

But they can get a guy that did what he did for cheaper. Cubs fans shouldn't be mad at this.

I think people think much more of him then what he is. The potential would have been met at this point.

His knee injury really fucked things up.

I'm convinced that it changed his swing just enough. It also prematurely ended his ability of being able to catch 15-20 times a year, which affected his trade value.

He was able to come back for the 2016 playoffs, which was amazing. But eventually the league caught up with him. He needs 90 games in a low stress environment, batting 5th against righties and 7th against lefties, to rebuild his performance or wash out. That is probably worth $4M base and $6M more in increasingly difficult bonuses.

Yeah someone will certainly take a flyer on a left handed bat a year removed from a 40HR season. I mean if a shitbag like Bote can get 5/15 ...

I don't think he gets anywhere near 8-9 from someone. Not in the current climate.

Why didn't anyone tell us that "waves and waves of talent" didn't mean it was for the Cubs?

This was always my favorite Cub fan delusion about Babe. Cubbie chubbies here were still professing he could catch 20 games per year even with the knee injury. Meanwhile, he was a liability at that spot defensively even when he was healthy and in better shape.

The most important part to Cub success was being in a division where multiple teams were actively tanking before the season started each year. As soon as teams other than the Cardinals decided to compete, that cubbie magic faded.

Not under the skin. Nothing wrong with catching lightning in a bottle and beating up on teams in a down year in the NL, then overcoming your managers incompetence and take 7 games to beat a team that was missing their two best pitchers.

It's not nearly as good as an 11-1 domination where the manager just let his starters mow everybody down, but it's still a ring.

Oh absolutely. But before the knee injury he could at least catch a couple of innings when they were losing and needed to double switch or something, and not require a roster callup if one of the other catchers was hurt for a couple of days.

The idea that he'd be a regular or even a primary backup at catcher was a fallacy.

the astros caught lightning in a bottle at the end of 2005 season and into the playoffs and the white sox should be glad they did.

Despite down numbers in 2020, Schwarber at 3-4 million is a good value. Hardly Babe Ruth, but his 2019 season was pretty good.

He's a DH....there will be demand for his 30 homes runs.

Good, who’s next? They all need to go. Tear it down.

Great first step by Hoyer. No one was going to give you anything of value for a DH who hits .188!

I thought his OBP was better throughout his career. But I guess it’s hard to get it too high when your average is around .228

Not as salty as you have been about the White Sox having a great April and May in 2016. You have been a bitter bitch about that for four years now.

Coomer on with M & H comparing Schwarber to his buddy David Ortiz getting released by the Twins than flourishing with the Red Sox. Not predicting, but possible. Cubs have a history of players thriving when moving on through the years. Also Coomer saying Schwarber was a victim of launch angle and hitting philosophies. Wasn't launch angle Theo's baby? Constantly praising it? Now Theo talks down launch angle and praising conventional hitting on his last presser. Coomer is always good on the score being as honest as he can be without offending who signs his checks.
