I see Hart is continuing where he left off before being sent down.

9 in a row. Marquis picks up a win, but really didn't deserve it.

great winning streak. I just wish the Cards would go on a losing streak and we could put some distance in between us and them.

I don't see Hart staying up here long. He'll be up for a cup of coffee to take some of the workload off the arms of the bullpen, but after another series I imagine he'll be recalled. Hoffpauer was a good addition to the club.

Another good win, but Marquis needs to just leave town. I'm sure Hendry is on the phone trying to put something together for that 5th starter, I'm just curious how thrifty they'll get for that pitcher.

Talk about a misleading name for a guy who's such a giant vagina that he can't get the ball over the plate with a 6 run lead.

If I could make that much money and perform as poorly as he does, I would feel pretty good too.

Man, does Michael Barrett suck behind the plate. Cubs were 5-6 in SBs last night.

Not to mention a couple passed balls and a wild pitch that he should have stopped. Yeah, bad day for Barrett. Actually, not bad job by Hendry for bailing on him when he did. Perfect. The Cubs got the best out of his career.

marquis pitches 5 or 6 innings, and keeps them in it. he isnt great, or even good, but all you can ask is that your lousiest starter keep you in the game, and not let it get out of hand. even with all the walks, he escaped the huge inning, and allowed the cubs to stick around.

Unless the starters go deeper in games soon, the bullpen will not have any arms left come Sept/Oct. You can't keep using 5 or 6 pitchers every game and expect to have any gas left for the stretch run.
Hart needed to go two innings last night but he was not able to throw strikes. Howery and Wood should not have even had to even warm up. My main concern is the bullpen petering out late in the season.
Lou is going to punch a pitcher before the year is over.

There's little doubt that a deal will have to be made for a quality starter. Trachsel won't cut it this year.
The fact that the dealing may have to include the annual crapshoot that is dealing for a middle reliever as well does not build confidence. Hoffpauir was doing well in his role, but another reliever was needed... and he promptly fucked up his second chance.

I'd like to see Lou go with 13 pitchers for a while like he said he was thinking about. Jose Ascaino looked decent in the few inning he had...bring him up and send down Fontenot or Hoffpauir.

Edit: Nevermind...didn't realize they already sent down Hoffpauir for Hart.

He was referring to Hart's 1/3rd inning 3 run 2 walk work last night.

This is what does not make sense to me about the move. Why not bring up Ascaino? He looked good in his time up here while Hart has not been impressive.

They couldn't bring him up because they have to spend at least 10 days back in the minors before being called up again, unless replacing a player on the DL.

See Tom Skilling, Jerry Taft etc. 50% wrong most of the time and still working. Now that's job security. Maybe Jason could look into that next!

I'm surprised Lou didn't come out of the dugout brandishing a bat in the 5th I think it was. He came out to the mound and told Marquis he was a piece of shit and that if he didn't start throwing strikes, he'd break his foot off in his ass. Marquis then promptly gives up an RBI double on the first pitch.

I think the only one he got was when Cedeno overslid second base and got tagged out.

Well, Marquis is going to have to do until the market opens a bit. I am hoping the indains fall out and cant sign CC, he would look nice for the 2nd half.

Its nice to see them win these games though, even though the starter wants to throw it away, they keep coming at them and pull it out. Wood is starting to look solid also.

What a joke, only 3 hits so far off of Maddux. Now dumbass Lilly balks the guy to 2nd after a leadoff walk.

Lilly works out of it, now the offense needs to pick it up.

I missed the replay of that play at the plate on the ground ball. Was that a legit tag by Soto?

Why did Lou have Eyre warm up, but he didn't bring him in to start the 8th? Lilly struggled to get through the 7th, thought that should have been a easy move. Fontenot sucks, horrible at bat.

Yeah the tag was good. It looks like Giles really hurt the Cubs tonight. Not only with the big catch in the top of the 8th, but then he leads off the bottom of the 8th with a double and scores the go ahead. Well, taking 2 of 3 on the road, is good. But I was getting downright fond of those sweeps.

Yep, gotta look at the big picture.

Lily pitched a heck of a game tonight, too bad the offense went away.

Start a new streak now.
