I wanted to point out that scenario is spelled wrong above.

Damn Cub fans. :-)

No Beardown, Schilling was not even on the postseason roster, as he was unable to participate in the playoffs, due to injury. Colon was likewise, unable to pitch.Google 2005 playoff rosters and you will see that is true. Both, would have used those Ace's to begin any playoff series, if possible. Losing your Ace, is devastating, as he can set the tone for that series, with a win in the first game. The Boston series in particular, was crucial. I was at game 2 at the Cell, where Wells was dominating the game and the Sox struggling to hit him. But Graffanino made the big error with 2 outs, that allowed Iguchi to bat and he hit the big 3 run homer. Again, credit Iguchi for taking advantage of an opportunity. Just as I credit the Sox with taking advantage of the advantage they got from Schilling not being able to take part in the series. I'm not re-writing history, just pointing out facts that helped the Sox in 2005, to win the Series. I would be happy for the Cubs to win any World Series, tainted or not. But I would rather that they play the best teams at full strength, and beat them decicively. Ideally, to have those teams include their top rivals, would be sweet. But frankly, at this point beating the best teams, would mean leaving the Sox out of the equation, as there are several better teams in the American League. Thats not a shot, it's a very easily verifiable fact. Anyone who looks at the won/loss records of all American League teams and is rational, would have to conclude thats true. But it would be a blast to see the two teams competing for the Series, as it would ensure that Chicago get another Championship.

WYC? You Cub fans get your panties in a bunch when the argument is made that "the Cubs haven'tplayed anyone yet! They've had X amount of home games! They played the pirates 12 times already!' Cub fans fire back with 'you can only play who is on the schedule.' Yet you argue that the Sox title is "tainted."

Was El Duque's 6th inning in Boston tained because Shilling wasn't there? Were 4 complete games in the ALCS tained because Colon wasn't there? Is Podsednik's home run tainted because he did not have one all season? Other teams had chances to beat the Sox and the better team won in 2005, plain and simple. Green is not a color you wear well, Steve.

uh...houston had their ace quite healthy and couldn't manage one victory against the sox in the world series.

and if i recall...the sox had to face clemens, pettitte, and oswalt in the first three games. and they won all three games.

how is that tainted?

goddamnit...is it all right to hate your own fanbase? cos sometimes...

WYC - In the end, you can only beat the teams you play and if the Cubs are lucky enough to win the World Series, you won't care if the opposing teams pitchers had broken arms or their power hitter were arrested for steroids before the series.

Elmhurst Steve must be a lawyer for Hillary's campaign. That's the only other place I've seen so much little meaningless crap thrown together in a large group in order to act like it means something.

These things are true and make your whole argument stupid.
1) Injuries happen all the time. Every World Series is tainted if injuries are factored in.
2) Errors happen.
3) It's not a verifiable fact that there are several better teams in the American League. Schedules are unbalanced.
4) You are a meatball.

I just brought this up to my neighbor who im good friends with and is a big time White Sox fan. We both said that we wouldnt be able to watch the game together becuase more than likely we would come to blows. The only way I would ever want to see this happening is if the Cubs were for sure going to win it. I couldnt bare to think of all the toothless bastards that stink like shit(and dont know anything about baseball) saying yeah my team beat yours. I would rather die.

Steve, do you think the 2003 Marlins think their World Series was tainted?

No Beardown, I don't think Marlins fans would feel that way. If you are talking about the Bartman stuff (as Showtune singer Doug) implies, I dont think that would taint anything. They had to beat Mark Prior and Kerry Wood to avoid being eliminated and they did. One play on a foul ball didn't beat the Cubs. The error by Alex Gonzalez on what should have been a double play ball, and the less than stellar performances by Prior after that, and by Wood the next day, were much more crucial. But I don't just blame those individuals, I also give credit to guys like Pierre, Castillo, Derek Lee and Cabrera, who played great in the series.

Beardown, that has been my call for a month now.

And almost nothing could be worse than 2003. That includes 1969 and 1984.

Losing to the Sox in a World Series would be bad, but I really think how you lose is what really stings.

Bigfan- so reverse that. How tough will it be, when the Cub's win the World Series, for Sox fans? I assure you, it not only did not bother me a bit that the Sox won the World Series, I was at a couple playoff games and enjoyed the experience. But I get the feeling it would be torture for Sox fans to watch the Cubs win it. Why there is so much angst towards the Cubs/Cubs fans I am not sure. But there is no doubt, it does indeed exist.

Won't be tough at all. We both had long droughts but we did it first. Always best to be the first.

Nobody under 90 in this city had seen a World Series champ.

Cubs will be the 2nd. Maybe the 3rd or 4th if the Sox get a couple more.

You're the one trying to say the Sox WS was tainted cuz it pains you that the Cubs can't get one.

No I didn't say or think the same thing, because I am not ignorant of historical facts. The Cubs, not the White Sox, were first. They won the World series in 1907 and again in 1908. They also played in, but did not win, the World Series in 1906, 1910,1918,1929,1932,1935,1938 and 1945. Just because it was the first World series in your lifetime, does not make it the first World series won by a Chicago team and the current Sox squad is not likely to sniff the World Series anytime soon, unless they buy a ticket. The Cub's however, have a realistic opportunity to win their division and compete for the title. Yes, I believe the Sox got some major breaks on their way to the title, it was discussed already, if you didn't recognize that Boston having their best starter (Schilling) out for that series and the Angels having their ace (Colon) out for the A.L.C.S. made a difference, then you are stupid or in denial of the facts. As stated earlier, I would be happy to have the Cubs win a tainted title as well. I would just rather that they face the best teams at full strength. But there are several months to play yet and as well as things have gone for the Cubs to date, things like injuries, can impact a team at any time. So we will see how the season shakes out. But right now, the big blue party train is a fun ride.

I know that.

I was talking about since we both started our droughts. We were first from that point. I made that clear.

You know. The modern era. The Radio era. The TV era. Since Alaska and Hawaii became states. Since we've had 2 World Wars. Get my point.
