ESPN says only 6 trips to the DL. Hey it's less than 9.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3478902

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.

The Cubs will receive the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson.

Harden, scheduled to be a free agent after the 2009 season, is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season.

The oft-injured righty missed a month earlier this season because of a right shoulder strain. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in his six-year career.

You really think so Darkside? I've never liked him. I know his career avg is around .290, but to me he just looks overmatched at the plate. I don't remember him doing much of anything to advance runners or hit sac flies, and it seems like he K's too much to be considered a contact hitter. But maybe the stats say otherwise, I don't know. All I know is, he can't play defense and doesn't hit for power. So unless he hits .330 with an OBP well over .400, I don't see his value to a team.

With consistant AB's this guy will hit around .300 making him a very valuable asset.
Beardown, I'm not complaining, I think Murton was excellent trade bait. It was a wonderful move for the Cubs to make. that doesn't diminish that he's a decent hitter.
I been saying patterson is all but gone for weeks now.
So, we kinda ended up with Harden for Sosa, huh?

The Cubs might not need that minor league catcher either, with Soto and his well maintained eyebrows.

If I were a Cubs fan this one would have me harden thick.

Even under a worst case scenario and Harden is shelved for parts of his stay here, you got Gaudin who can enter the rotation. This was an absolute steal.

If the Cubs gave up both Marshall and Gallagher I would still like this trade.

Cubs fans gotta love this trade. Basically like gd said, even if Harden breaks down its not a terrible trade and they now have the 1-2 punch they'll need if Harden is healthy to compete with the AL clubs in the WS. I thought they had the best team in the NL before this trade, and now I can see them winning the WS. Im still not positive they are better then the Ray, Red Sox, or White Sox, but obviously a case can be made.

Billy Bean should have asked for more. He should have asked for Pie and Marshall to go along with everybody else they got. Hendry would have done it.

Christ, Hendry doesn't even know if he'll be here next year with new owners coming in. It's all about this year for him.

What is it that Billy sees in Murton? What's he going to do in Oakland? DH, and hit .280, with an OBP of .290? 5 HR's in that big park? Have fun!

Dude, he's a great contact hitter, why would you say that?

because his contact consists of ground outs and infield hits. Murton had to go...his time here was done.

For what they gave up, he is well worth the risk. I also think this isnt Hendrys last move. Cant lose on this deal at all.

This is a great trade. Murton and Patterson were not going to help this year, the minor league catcher is blocked by progressing to the majors by Soto and while Gallagher has promise, he is raw and will need a season or two to fully develop.

And there were no other impact pitchers other than Harden to acquire. I am sure the injury problems Harden had probably lowere the asking price.

I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised. Murton and Patterson were doing nothing here. Patterson... Jesus, but what an idiot. Lots of talent, but no maturity. Fucked up his chances here. Murton doesn't hit with enough power to suit the suits. Donaldson is an A prospect. He makes a successful career in the bigs, it will be an upset.
I'll miss Gallagher. He wasn't going to be dependable enough for this year, but will be quite good down the road. It will be interesting to see who has the better MLB career between Marshall and Gallagher as I believe it was between those two in replacing Harden.
Gaudin is a big surprise. I would've thought that Beane tried to get all four Cubs for Harden. Getting Gaudin for the bullpen/ spot start help is a bonus.
Not bad Hendry. Of course, when Harden's arm troubles crop up and he goes on the DL, Hendry will be cruxified for being a patsy, but I like the deal as it stands now.
