Sobering thought. If the Injuns get to Lester and I believe they will, stealing bases with reckless abandon it'll up to Jake to stop a possible 0-2 hole with Hendricks and Lackey going at home. Jake will pitch twice this series in all likelihood and if its usual Jake and Lester loses game 1, its trouble.

The offense needs to rise to the occasion in this series because I think CLE will score some runs starting Game 1 against Lester.

They will definitely be running once they get on.

My closest friend is a HUGE Cub fan and he constantly complains about Lester's inability to throw over to first. Here's the thing though, it never seems to hurt Lester. And nobody ever talked about it when he was in Boston. It seems to be more of a phobia and baseless complaint by Cub fans. Yeah, they stole over 70 times or something on Lester this year, but it couldn't have done much seeing as how he was 19-5. I've never heard anyone complain about Syndergaard but he's easier to steal on than Lester. So is Arrieta. The best way to stop stealing is to keep guys off the bases.

McCarver made a point that I had never considered during one of these playoff games. He said that the fact that Lester never throws over to first is absolutely unnerving for the runner and that the top base stealers use the throws over to gauge their lead and when they are going to go.

I don't think this is as big a deal as it's made out to be.

actually, i think he gave up 28 steals this season, which is a lot, but it wasn't even one per start. all everyone talks about is how easy he is to steal on, yet nobody this year has really taken advantage of it. i have read a lot in the Cleveland and national media about how they are going to run him out of the park as though he is going to get rattled and fall to pieces, but hasn't every team said that when they face him? unless they find a way to steal first i think Lester will be fine.

wow, i just looked it up - i had no idea how easy Syndergaard is to steal on, and i assume he DOES throw to first. he gave up 48!

The Reds stole like 6 in 3 innings against him because they weren't afraid to run. I'm guessing the team that led the league in steals will do something similar.

you may be right, but if 6 of the steals he allowed this season came in a meaningless game he pitched against the reds at the end of the year in his last start, that means he gave up 22 in his other 31 starts. I am sure the Indians will run if they can, but with all the talk about how easy he is to steal on, it is surprising that it hasn't happened all year and it is assumed tonight it will be a big problem. im not predicting one way or the other, it could happen. but with this known flaw he has it is surprising it hasn't really been exploited.

I'm stiff with excitement.
