I've seen 3 errors not scored errors against Baez in the last 2 weeks. I've also seen him look real bad and fall behind 0-2 and the pitcher hits him with a breaking ball on the next pitch...he's who I thought he was. I'm not sure why you all can't see it. Maybe in September you will wake from the Cub Slumber.

Still only striking out at 22% on the year. Still surpassing my expectations for this year. Especially for a guy they throw at 2nd 3rd ss and center field.

I like how the catcher set up at Javi's eyes and Hoover grooved one to his letters. Old javi was back last night and was swinging at anything up.

That was a great hit, but many of his swings during the night were old free-swingin' Javy. He was bound to connect eventually.

You can never say never, but he'll likely always be a low OBP guy.

What you're hoping for is Uggla-ish power to go along with his game changing defense.

I'll take that.

He don't have the power you think he does, he's swinging out of his cleats most At bats...Russell has more power and doesn't swing out of his cleats. I could see Addy hitting 20 homers yearly in a couple years.

He (Baez) does have tremendous power for a middle infielder. Your hate for him as a player is clouding your opinion. You even Hub Arkush the guy and count "should've been errors" in your argument against him.

Great hitting and great defense today. I'll assume they were all bad pitches, lucky bounces, and bad baserunning however.

I can't come up with another player that is seamlessly moved from 2nd, short and third. Chin up javi, someday you may have your own position.

Baez is making a mockery of Major League pitching.

OPS over .900 in his last 30 games.

For the season (tonight's game not included), he is hitting .333/.404/.529 versus LHP.

Beast mode.

Trade everyone but Baez, Contreras and Hendricks. Rebuild.

edit: Ugh, Bryant can stay, I guess.

I'll take that.

If he can maintain .271/.310/.447 with reasonable 2-out and late/close game hitting, then with his defense he'll have a 15 year career. Maybe not as a starter, but as a guy who gets 350 PA/year playing all four infield positions and LF, and pinch hitting against lefties.

But now, he doesn't have the latter part. Baseball Reference sorts at bats by leverage situations, and Baez rakes in low leverage but is pretty god-awful in medium/high leverage situations.

Are Baez and Contreras the only good Cubs players?

Hendry's barrel was also where all the Cub analytical info was previously stored.

Milton Bradley's steak was dry aged in it, as well. So, it also has that going for it.

Let's bump this in August..I hope I'm wrong

We're close!

.277 / .323 / .455 for a healthy .778 OPS. I'm sure his climb will continue.

Also, 31 RBI in only 235 PA. That would be about 100 RBI over a season if he started every day.

And the best number for those that put a lot of weight into this ...only 54 strikeouts. 23% strikeout percentage. You can live with that.

Since June 1st, Javier Baez has an .880 OPS.
