I know I missed Sandberg pre 89 ish , but I just never thought he had a great glove or range. They give GG's out to the best offensive player at each position unless they are a real butcher.

Luol Deng had a better career than Derrick Rose, but 2011 Derrick Rose was a better player than Luol Deng ever was.

Sandberg knew defensing positioning. Never had to move much. Back then shifting was not a thing. The guys knew where to be.

Russell is the more dependable player. People forget when Baez filled in for Russell once he got a hamstring against the Cardinals. Baez biffed a couple of plays those playoffs.

The cat has more pizzaz but he has more boneheaded plays too.

Now you guys have me confused. He is the best infielder I have ever seen but only over a career, not in a particular season and not in the sense you he would be the person you would most trust in playing the position every day.

You guys are drunk on those tag plays which in reality are as common an occurrence as a balk or HBP.
