I think it was good to get rid of the old donut stand triangle. That was an odd eyesore.

I don't like the excessive signage inside and I really hate that they weren't able to better incorporate the roof lines across the street. There were ways they could have done it but their design seemed punitive against those people "stealing their product". Now they own most of the buildings and can't sell out the rooftops because they cut off their nose to spite their face.

The hotel and bland commercial across the street to the west is ridiculous. Boring architecture and the use isn't even that great. I'd love to know what the occupancy is in that place. Is anyone staying there for six months of the year?

I guess everything is cleaner and more orderly, if that is what floats your boat.


I think it's hideous. I appreciate the restoration of the Spanish tile roofing and the wrought-iron fencing in place of cyclone fencing on the exterior of Wrigley itself. Everything surrounding the park looks awful, perhaps none worse than that big dark grey block across Addison. Too much blockitechture.

I do miss Punkin' Donuts tho. Not really Wrigley related. And the Mickey D's was a nice cheap place to park for a show at the Metro.

Now the neighborhood is completely Naperville-broified.

Maybe they should have had a bunch of people in wheel chairs and walkers do the inspection rather than a city crew that doesn’t really give a shit.

That’s why I take our groups to Windy City Thunderbolts games. It’s not like Wrigley pre-renovations was an ADA success story, the disabled are just screwed in different ways now.

There are DEFINITELY some nice areas for wheelchairs...I'm sure there are some questionable seats/areas as well, but it's not like there aren't also shitty "normal" seats.

He was very polite about it, but basically said that people stand up at sporting events so deal with it. Plus his partner has a disability which requires her to sit in ADA seating in most ballparks other than Wrigley.

It’s not a question of dealing with it. They either brought it up to code or they didn’t. I doubt the actual quality of the seats plays into that. I was once involved in exploring options for upgrading a technical lab I worked out of on the south side. Part of what killed the project was the cost of bringing the (oldish) building up to modern ADA standards - which the city mandates on projects over a certain value. Ironically, not investing in that location eventually led to a relocation out of state and the building is now a field of asphalt (which really helped beautify the mostly impoverished area).
