It's an overpay and a pretty big one at that...that being said, it sets you up to have the guy play his entire career in a Cardinals uniform, which counts for something I guess? I'd be a bit more upset if we were looking at a team that was better set up to make a serious run at the World Series in the next couple years and that money could go elsewhere, but at this point the Wild Card is the best you are going to be able to hope for a while and I don't think they have the arms to make a deep run in the postseason if they even got there.
