We talked about how historic the Cubs starters were last season. Of course that would not happen again. However, the Cubs starters are better than they have been in 2017, and it will be evident hopefully sooner rather than later.

Do you realize the Cubs are one injury from the main 4 to start a real panic? They have just one option for replacing the #5 starter in the minors because they like Montgomery in the BP. Cub fans on this board were hoping for more pitching before the season started. Another #4/5 guy would have been nice. All they had to do was resign Hammel again.

Rally cry of 2017:
Theo is still partying instead of "GM'ing".

One month in and I am not impressed. There was a caller on Hit and Run yesterday that articulated the feeling in this team really well. That aren't a comfortable watch so far this year. Even when they have the lead there isn't that feeling that "they've got this" despite the bullpen being good for the most part.
Maybe it's because the starters have been so bad and it seems like they've been behind so much this year. They certainly don't look dominant at all . How much longer before we can stop chalking up Schwarbers awfulness to " its early " ? Another month ? Thankfully the rest of the division blows and no one is running away with it but there are problems with this team they better get fixed fast.

it's like i've said, if this shit is still happening in july, then it's time to flip the shit switch.

for right now, it's as you said, "uncomfortable".

the pace reminds me of the 2010 saints, personally. just inching wins, and pushing through...only to get beat in the playoffs by the worst playoff team of all time.

The starting pitching has been awful, this team would look so much better if they traded Schwarber for pitching and had Jimenez,Almora,Heyward and Jay.

Schwarber can't lead off, it's depressing.

The Cubs did not have a different situation with depth to begin last season. In fact, they have more depth this year with Montgomery and Butler, and they are likely to make a move at the deadline.

I think there may be too many problems to fix this season, especially given the championship hangover effect. They just don't look sharp in almost any phase of the game. They're done for this season, even if they make the playoffs due to the mediocre division.

Package Schwarber and Baez for pitching.

Stick Candelario at 3rd,Happ at 2nd and Bryant to LF.

The White Sox followed up

2005

with a 90 win season that was considered a disappointment

 The 3rd place in the Central is what was disappointing for Sox fans, not the 90-72 record.

The Cubs aren't finishing 3rd in the division this year, they are post season bound.

The 2015 Cubs were 3rd place and yet postseason bound due to another Wild Card.

The 2006 Sox starting pitching in the 2nd half completely failed them, and the bullpen was not nearly as good as it was in 2005. After back to back season of pitching into October, the Cubs pitching might suffer the same fate.

Also, 2005

You think the Reds are going to win the division? This happens every year, a handful of shitty teams start out decent and wet the bed by August.. The Cubs will be in the post season this year, that's all I hope for..just get in and anything can happen.

It's Baseball. Teams have great stretches and bad stretches. The Cubs had one last year just before the All Star game. They are just played a really good, really hot team and the Cubs will be fine. Panic? .......No shot.

They were the best team in baseball last year and limped through the playoffs to a title so maybe this year they won't be the best team in baseball and dominate in the playoffs.

I believe we are one more loss tonight (after this one is closed out) away from a full Cubbie fan meltdown across this city.

Interns are calling costume shops around the city to see if they have gorilla costumes.

Arrieta knows he can't let the Rockies put the ball into play due to LaStella and Schwarber. It's getting him out of his game, and the results tell the story.

First it was the Cubs offense "boning him", now its the Cubs defense letting him down. You are making more excuses than my mother in law.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that someone with such a large scale mental disorder, like IMU, isn't handling a small batch of adversity well.
